Hi, what engine is it - I've got a set of brand new 83mm KS 2E pistons with rings that I might be persuaded to sell to you...

I got a suggestion of using a 2.5 Kombi piston. If i go with the suggestion will it work with the HV motor. Seeing that the engine is being bored to 40thou do i ask for a 40thou Kombi piston? Or how are the standard size pistons compared to each other between the 1800 HV motor and 2.5 Kombi motor?

Stock 1800 piston is 81mm so 40 thou over is 82mm. Stock Kombi piston is 82.5mm but you can also go 40 thou over to 83.5mm. The 2.3 Kombi piston will work with the 1800 crank, with 83.5mm pistons it will give you the magical 1900 motor.

Kombi 2.5 piston will need a new crank to make them work. A 2l crank that is. If budget is an issue stick with the 40 thou (1mm) o/s pistons. All the stock parts will work the way they supposed to

Just to be technical, what is the displacement after going 1mm o/s?

Stock displacement is 1781cc, 40 thou over stock (82mm) will give 1825cc, 83.5mm Kombi will give 1893cc's.

If you go that route like i did don't forget the 2.3 pistons will need about 1.5mm cut off the top to work and you will need a headgasket that suits your new bore size. Stock 1.8 gasket won't fit it will touch the pistons. It only has a diameter of 82.5mm. A 2E gasket is needed. You will also have to buy the 2.3 pistons 40 thou oversize to get 83.5mm. Stock is 82.5mm

Is it worthwhile going the Kombi piston route? Will there a notable difference in power ? Or must I just go with the standard oversize pistons.

A well sorted 1900 will give most 2.0's a hiding (Viper's Golf is a good example). Why it's so popular, the big bore/short stroke ratio give it the ability to rev like no stock motor can...

But im doing nothing to the cylinder head. Will there still be an increase in power?

Don't underestimate the increase in power from increasing the displacement, I've owned three 2.1 stroker motors and in all three cases that extra 100cc's made between 20 and 25Nm more on the Dyno than similarly worked 2.0 engines.
