Re: dual cooler idea, 2 singles to make up 1 cupra style ICE
good read so far, my opionion would be that the two coolers on top of each other would work, the flow would not be as good as the cupra cooler because of the reducer and the two bends then back into the second cooler, so your lag might be worse with this cooler setup than a cupra cooler. But keep us updated as i also wanne go FMIC soon...

Re: dual cooler idea, 2 singles to make up 1 cupra style ICE
@dazza i agree, but then its gotta be custom made, which becomes more expensive, you rather buy forge or seat ic's
even if i find an oem cooler the core wouldnt be the same, i was thinkn bout the G5 gti cooler but its core is 35thick.
mr turbo has
600x300x76 ,450x300x76...
that would be a good option but im not sure if that thickness will fit behind the crash bar.
maybe someone can comment here?

Why not just get a cupra sized cooler made up? there are lots of guys that build custom coolers.....should stil be cheaper than OEM cupra cooler.

im tryna come up with an off the shelf system for myself and other tdi owners...Dattiman wrote:Why not just get a cupra sized cooler made up? there are lots of guys that build custom coolers.....should stil be cheaper than OEM cupra cooler.
custom coolers might be a bit cheaper and also the quality is dependent on the company that makes it.
im sure there are people here who will appreciate a shopping list or items they can purchase easily.
who knows... i just might end up selling kits! lol

hwzit bro, I just ordered a new map sensor now. as soon as it arrives ill take you for a drive with vcds and you can see for yourself the min and max temps on my cooler. last time I logged I hit a min of 19º and max 34º.

Re: dual cooler idea, 2 singles to make up 1 cupra style ICE
this seems to be the closest effective cooler to the seat cupra
600x300x75
from sean919's build.
if i can source this i wouldnt go thru the troubles of dual coolers

I wouldn't bother with a dual SMIC or FMIC setup anyway...waynemodz wrote:if i can source this i wouldnt go thru the troubles of dual coolers

Re: dual cooler idea, 2 singles to make up 1 cupra style ICE
Just FYI.
Modding the cooler to be a double pass/U flow will cause it to have a higher pressure drop than straight through.
You would likely make more power by just rerouting boost pipes...

too big a cooler and longer distance for air to flow...and also longer distance air flows will result in it heating up??? no???

Yes, but no, changes in air pressure move at the speed of sound and you are not exactly having to fill a football stadium with boost pressure. The difference is minimal at worst...Tre wrote:agreed...wmi ftwNeuk wrote:I wouldn't bother with a dual SMIC or FMIC setup anyway...waynemodz wrote:if i can source this i wouldnt go thru the troubles of dual coolers

Re: dual cooler idea, 2 singles to make up 1 cupra style ICE
wow some guys comments are stupid
the biggest fmic you can fit is the 600x300x76 but then you need to remove the crash bar.
i know because i have that on my cupra tdi now
my cooler is rated 600hp and im no where close to that.
air will go the shortest path through the cooler
so lets say im only using 65% of my cooler.
im also thinking about doing twin intercooler using 2 coolers in u-flow
so the plan is two 550x140x63 coolers they are rated 250hp each so im still covered there.
if the air spreads over the hole cooler (140mm) it will be more efficient and then it will pass through another cooler
using the full two 550x140x63 cores instead of the 600x230x63 core now
yes they say pressure drop is more with u-flow but the problem with u-flow is the end tank
air hits a 90 degree wall turns and hits another 90 degree wall.
if i go with this set up ill have a nice aluminum pipe welded to the coolers to link them.
smooth turn out of the one into the top one
the problem with straight flow coolers are the long ass boost pipes
the one from the turbo to the other side of the car to go into the cooler is very long.
so if you do the twin cooler
pipe from turbo gos into bottom cooler into top cooler and then to intake
it will be alot shorter.
when you run big turbo like me to have to get the boost into the engine quickly because they spool up so late.
