Which mp9 map for 2l 8v?

Post by Benitovw »

Hi guys I'm Benito I'm a newbie.

I have a problem on choosing a ecu by Allen in houtbay, I want to know which is better for a 2l 8v ady with a 282 cam, branch an f/f. Ferroli map or the polo cup box which is better on fuel, smoother an better performance?
Will a uni q be needed.
Can I do the uni q on both?
Thanks in advance guys.

I have a ferroli chip, they can't fine tune your car so it might over fuel.Uni-chip will be much better on fuel and performance.
Also no limiter, so if you miss a gear

should if not better, because he will be live tuning the mp9 just like how one would tune any other after market management or uni q for that matter.

problem with mp9 is that its not user friendly like after market management or uni q, you cannot hookup up a cable then tune the actual map, click save and drive off. He actually removes the chip from the ecu, then downloads its map onto his emulator, then either tune it on a dyno or road, then saves the map on the emulator and then has to burn that map into the chip eprom and then plug back into your mp9 ecu. He is based in JHB travels alot, so speak to him.

@UDC Pluyo is in joburg I'm in cape town so I'll go with the uni q.I'll talk to him.
I can drive with only the polo cup ecu for a few months to get the cash flow right guy?
Would it be sensless to take the car for I dyno tune without a uni q?
I was thinking of dynotech to get my c.o,cam timing & timing set up right?
What would they charge to do that?

I'd go for either one of the 2.
Allen's boxes aren't that greatly tuned and still need a bit of fine tuning. polo cup box should fuel the 282 cam fine.
Isak at dynotech will sort you out. He has a few tricks up his sleave so will be able to get the most out of your current setup.

But he does uniQ aswell so maybe chat to him about pricing. Maybe he can hook up a deal for you. Would be pointless paying R450 for a dyno tune-up now and then R2000 or whatever a few months later for the unichip.

But allen's boxes definately needs to be tuned. Don't take it for granted that it will just be fine.

Fuel consumption and performance dont work together you either want one or the other. Cams dont have gd consumption as they allowing more air, your engine gonna want more fuel.

If this is as far as you gonna go with your mods, just go with a uni Q. If you have bigger plans, rather full AFM and have a gd tuner set it up. You can have the best system in the world if the tuner doesnt know wat he is doing or not willing to spend the time, forget it!

Guys I have decided I'm going to get the polo cup box by Allen to accommodate for the 282 cam an get Isak from dynotech to do his magic an get the uniQ in ±3 months time coz cash flow is low.
Me an my dad is going to do the conversion ourselves,
Fit tank an fuel lines plus pump
Fit 210flywheel an a Sachs power clutch
Fit the cam an vernier
Buy the 4-2-1 branch an fit it to the motor then ride to power just with branch to get the 57mm 2 box f/f fitted
Got a short engine loom so its just to plug it in
An drill the intake to fit map sensor
O an service the motor
Get it running an get the timing set etc by dynotech.
Any thoughts guys or advice let me know
thanx

i bought a Polocup ECU from Allen as well about 3weeks back with the rev limit of 7800rpm. I know of three guys running those boxes with Uni-Q's on. One running a 272, the other a 276 and the 3rd a 282, and AFAIK none of them are having problems.

I plan on running a 282 as well.

you will need a uni Q as allens boxs are not ideal on their own, but you can drive with out the uni Q fitted, but i wouldn't hammer the car without having the uni Q fitted and tuned.

Why do you want a vernier if I may ask? Are you skimming the block?

I would suggest new oil seals before puting it in! you dont want to pull gearbox out just to change a R40 oil seal and stuff a new clutch up from oil leak that could have been avoided!

@ tin tin - why wouldnt you hammer the car? Is the fueling not right on his boxes or what?

I bought a polo cup box from him in march. After driving for 2 years with the bin laden box i also got from him.

So far i havent had any issues with the polo cup box. It doesnt over fuel. Revs clean. Copes well with the 272 cam.

im just a firm believer that a car should only be hammered if the driver is 100% sure that everything is running as close to 100 percent, especially in boost applications, it just decreases the margin for error. i dont know if its just me, but if i had some doubt in my mind that the fueling and timing was out in my car i would not drive it hard until i am sure that everything has been corrected.

also why would you want to drive a car that you modifying and you not getting 100% out of the mods that you have done.

i use allens box with a uni Q in my car and a couple of my friends also use them in their 2.0's and every time we put on the dyno, the fueling and timing is out with just allens box, especially with the higher duration cams.

his boxes are not ideal on their own, but with a uni chip they work well!

all engines are unique and especially when changing things like cams, deck height, compression etc, one box no longer fits all.

so do it properly!

I definitely understand what you saying. I do things the same way its either the right way or the wrong way.

My timing is definitely spot on with his box. It was set and checked with VAG.

My debate is whats the point of spending another R1500 - R2000 for a UniQ when you couldve bought a AFM? Especially when thinking that the polocup map was created for a heavier cam.

I remember once i asked him if i should get a Unichip the box he said he wouldnt advise me to use a unichip with his boxes.

im not sure why he would say that, because i have seen the improvements 1st hand on the dyno on 3 of my friends cars that are all running his boxes with added uni Q.

he may be a wizard at loading a map onto a box, but as far as i know he has no tuning experience what so ever. there are big improvements to be made with uni Q on his maps especially when running unique modifications.

like i said before, one box does not suit all.

just my view from past experience
