Golf 7 gti won’t start no power to dash please help

Post by matty125i »

Good day guys !!

So the car has been working great no issues no warnings.

Battery is giving 12v of power
Key fob battery is new !

I can unlock and lock the car
But the push start will not activate there is power to to the dash display showing door open but no ignition or won’t start

Interior lights work and head lights

Windows and sunroof won’t open ?

Any advise will be appreciated

Sorry to hear that.

Can you open/close windows & sunroof with your keyfob?

I believe your car like my 6C will advice you if your key fob is running low.

Also check your main fuses.

I hope you get sorted.

Can you put the key fob under the wiper stalk by the steering column and see if the car powers up?

Tried the spare key?

Thanks for the advice! Key fob doesn’t want to open windows or sunroof, will check the main fuses.

Open the bonnet.

Open the box on the right of the battery in front of the shock tower.

See the large metal fuses on the front of the fuse box with red wires attached to the bottom of them?

You do? Good. Remove each one, one at a time, until you find the loose or broken one. Replace the fuse.

Have a nice day.

Hi guys thanks for all the replies
After a number of calls and YouTube videos trying to bypass the start button and start the car in override mode which was a fail as it only applies to dead key fob or battery

The fault was the actual button connection terminals where cleaned and a new part has been ordered

OE NUMBER 5G1959839A3Q7: IGNITION- / STARTER SWITCH

Incase anyone ever faces the same up hill battle

Warning signs to look out for button feels like it’s not as responsive as normal ?

Cool man. Glad you have a solution.

I didn't think the button itself would be the culprit.

Nice work finding it.

On a side note, what you going to tell the insurance if your car gets stolen where's your spare key?

i didn't know we had to disclose this. might be a stupid question but why the need to disclose this? or is due to potential theft somehow?

Depending on when your insurer did the underwriting (I deal with insurers that underwrite upfront) they will ask if you have the spare as part of underwriting.

I am not sure if the lack of spare key in itself is an issue. Like if you never received a spare. They might just want to protect themselves from you claiming for a lost key when you never had 2.

Thanks for the info, I some times have the same problem.
Wonder if this is covered under MaintPlan...

If not, what was the cost of the Switch, easy to fit?
