Low pressure fuel pump

Post by Zie_Khumz »

Greetings,

I have had some problems with my car, sometimes it feels like it is dies and then comes back to life during hard acceleration, hard starts when the car has been standing for about 3 hours or more, I have checked fuel lines, replaced fuel filter and the problem is still there. After connecting onto a computer, I got the following errors;

Check EVAP system, open the fuel cap and keep an ear out of a hissing sound. If you having hard cranking, open up the fuel cap and see if the starting issue is resolved, then your EVAP system is blocked somewhere.

Sounds like the fuel pump in the tank is faulty, but I would assume because of the EVAP issue, the fuel pump cannot suck the fuel up due to the vacuum pressure as a result of a faulty EVAP system not equalizing the pressure in the tank.

Thank you for the reply, I forgot to add that at times, I hear a hissing noise inside the car coming from the left rear passenger seat. I have checked underneath the seats and the are 2 pumps, one on each side.

Yep, sounds like an EVAP issue, remove your fuel cap and see if it still does it, if it does, then maybe you have a leak in the lines that is pulling air, if not, you need to check your EVAP valve.

Thanks, I have done that and I still have the hissing sound, also disconnected the fuel pump on the left and no change, started the car whilst that fuel pump was disconnected and no change. I will look for leaking pipes.

Thank you for your response

Been looking for leaks but I cannot see anything, are there any common failure points?

Have you checked if the symptoms still persist if the fuel cap is removed and you drive normally?

So I took of the fuel cap and drove for more than 70km, normal driving plus some hard driving, strange enough, it did not have any issues

Yep, your EVAP system is faulty or valve is blocked for the EVAP, if you can trace the valve and check why it is not venting, do so, otherwise take it to a shop to get it fixed. There should be nothing wrong with your fuel system and fuel pump so you dodged an expensive repair bill.

Try not to drive the car much as you are straining the fuel pump and other components and could cause serious damage either by overheating the pump, damaging injectors, etc, or if you have to, drive without the fuel cap on but it might not be safe.

I have order the N80 valve, whilst troubleshooting, I noticed that it no longer had the OEM clamps, pipes were held using cable ties. I will update once I've fitted the new valve

Seems like it was replaced before. Make sure you replace the valve with an OE one so it does not fail and put some good clamps.

Make sure you check all the lines going in and out of the valve isn't blocked and no dirt is stuck anywhere before fitting the new one.

While the car is open ed up put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line going to the motor. Your car has the PWM fuel pump. There is a controller box under the rhs of the rear seat. Your fuel filter will also have the FPR built into it.

The fuel pressure should read 6 to 6.5 bar, if you have less than that, replace the pump and the filter.

Replaced the valve early today. If the problem persist, I will most definitely check the fuel pressure. I have taken it for a test drive and it seemed well. I will monitor though and have it scanned after a week of driving and then advise from there.

Just scanned my car and found one fault code

012555 - Low Pressure fuel regulation

Could this mean I need a new fuel pump, I have not found a shop that can check the fuel pressure from my pump. Any suggestions would be appreciated, shops around Durban.

Have you checked the time and date of code?

If it was there and after you replaced valve and the car is fine, then it could be an older code stored.

Best bet is to clear it and check if it comes back.

Re: Low pressure fuel pump

How many days later is this after the fitment of the valve?

This fuel regulation code might be a faulty sensor, but just to be sure, clear it and check if it comes again.

If there is no driving issues and flat spots when driving and everything feels normal, then it most likely is the sensor not the fuel pump.

Check the ross tech link for your codes issue and how to resolve it.

Not sure how long it took the code to return, I will clear it again and then scan daily.

Thank you for the link, much appreciated
