Hesitation coming off throttle

Post by Ram013 »

Morning chaps

My Mk5 GTI has intermittently been jerking/cutting off but only when I release the throttle. No issues on WOT whatsoever.

I'm thinking coilpack/throttle position sensor/MAF/cam follower(although I replaced this about 30 000km's ago and car is stock). Last diagnostic did not throw any error codes.

As usual I need to lead a horse to water so need to point the service centre in the right direction. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Rather late update, but anyway...turned out to be a missing rubber grommet on the dipstick.

It should then also have idled badly.

Come to think if it, it did at times but then I put it down to the car being cold.

To clarify, the grommet was broken, just hanging onto the dipstick.

I've seen this on S3's too - a damaged dipstick caused rough idle and hesitation, presumably due to pressure loss. New one went in and voila! Magic happened.

Yup, a simple dipstick caused a sphincter-tightening reaction. Glad though that it was a easy fix.
