Mk5 GTi Vibration at speed

Post by Modjo »

HI Guys,

Please assist,

Ive recently bought a MK5 GTi DSG , and have noticed at speeds above 110km/h the car has a vibration (the whole car literally shakes), I initially thought it would be a wheel balancing issue, but it isn't. Ive had the wheels balanced, and high speed balanced, and no buckles or any other issues were found with the wheels.

I eventually sold the wheels and put a set of 19's on, and car is doing exactly the same thing, any ideas as to what it could be,

Check wheel bearings..maybe a suspension specialist ad they check various rubber components ie.suspension bushings

You will have to loosen the driveshaft nut to check the wheel bearings (possibly remove the cv joint from the hub to check if its end of life) .

By shaking the wheel, you cannot determine if its worn or not unfortunately.

My car makes a squeek squeek squeek cluck cluck cluck sound both at the same time when I brake at low speeds say 20km could it be a brake caliper or something that is brake related it's got new discs and pads that the previous owner installed 2 months ago just before I bought the car

Some places don't tighten the shock mount nuts properly and they can loosen from vibration and movement of the shocks so if your shocks were done i would recomend you check all 4 and see if everyrthing is good and tight just to eliminate that as a possibility

They should be able to check for flat spots and check everything suspention wise, just make sure you are there checking everything with them otherwise you could end up enduring un neccesary costs.

Hi guys just some feedback so u guys know I've been struggling with this vibration also on my car for the passed 4 months...ive spent a **** load of money 1st was
Front brakes and discs ...car still shuddered then was shocks ...car still shuddered ...then i sent it for a full suspension check came back with no faults I then balanced and rotated tyres 4 times at 4 different shops...car still shuddered then I replaced 2 tyres...car still shuddered ...eventually i wanted to sell the car but I said one last try at a small allignment shop near my house guy looks abit old I'd say 50+- says R120 for a suspension check I said ok do it he also says can't see anything besides control arm Bush's that are still ok and won't cause this severe shudder then he charges me R100 a tyre to do HIGH SPEED BALANCING and guys this guy is a magician he spins the wheel approximately 80km or 100km whilst on the car and it shows which wheel is shuddering he then started placing weights and taking out weights without the machine telling him what to do and guys the shudder is down to nothing now I'm so happy now that I think I'm going to keep the car ...it still has a very slight shudder but its coming from the back disc they kinda worn out but u cant even feel it so I'm good to go now if any1 has the same problem ...try the high speed balancing
Thanks guys
