VW GOLF MK5 GTI OVER HEATING

Post by vernymac »

Hey guys

so i need some advice,

My mk5 gti started over heating yesterday (thank god it was close to home) the temp gauge jumped up over about 2 clicks over the 90deg mark i then switched the car off and heard the fans come one let it sit for about 5min then started again and as i drive it sort of started going up when i stopped the car and let it idle.

I checked the oil cap for any mixing of fluids didnt see anything i also checked the if there was any leaks and coolant in the water bottle everything seems fine.

Which direction should i start in by checking all possible issues that could be the cause of the car over heating?

will have car scanned this weekend to see what fault codes come up but any advice on where to start looking would be appreciated!!

Thanks Gents :hurray:

How is the idle? Had a similar issue when the PCV was faulty.

what is the mileage on the car.

While replacing the waterpump you might as well replace the cambelt, tensioner, and 2 rollers one time.

Yes, changing the thermostat is quite a job but do able with patience. Did mine a few months back with OEM part(R800) and two bottles of anti freeze.

That is why I gave that price. While you are in there you do the timing belt and tensioners.

need to get all the parts together and sit a weekend and get it done.... drove the car yesterday and today sat in traffic etc seems fine now fans coming on heat gauge staying at 90 no issue could be right maybe just a sticky thermostat

Mine was stuck OPEN, used to take very long to warm up and if you on the open road it should stay around 60/70 degC.
