MK6 GTI - Dog Bone Inserts. Good, or Bad?
I'm toying with the idea of adding a Dog Bone insert to my MK6 GTi DSG to help the car get off the line a bit quicker and create a bit more stability. I already have DG springs and 19" wheels and I don't want to get coil-overs because I don't intend to ever go lower than what my car is now. A dog bone insert seems like a very good "bang for buck" modification.
From what I've read, this small mod has a very big improvement on manual shift cars, but it also holds benefits to people with DSG Boxes. The benefits include less wheel-hop and more stable shifting from the gearbox. Some people even say that it speeds up the shifting a bit - but that might be subjective. The only downside to this modification is that it introduces noticeable vibration into the cabin. This is apparently very present during the first 2 weeks or so until the mount actually softens up and settles a bit. Thereafter the vibrations subside substantially.
There's no denying the effectiveness of this modification in terms of gear shifting and off-the-line performance (especially for front wheel driven, modified cars) - but my concern relates to the vibrations introduced. My concern does not lie with the comfort levels of the car being reduced (it's a modified turbo car after all), but I do know from common sense that if you introduce vibrations that it could lead to unexpected results in other parts of the car (there's a sex joke in there somewhere, I'm sure of it).
Has anyone heard or experienced problems with a car due to vibrations added by these dog bone inserts? The last thing I want to do is to add something that improves one aspect of my car, but could potentially damage other components. I don't want to introduce vibrations that could damage panels or sheer off bolts after long term use. I believe most engineers will agree with me that vibration could be a very destructive force, especially over time.

Re: MK6 GTI - Dog Bone Inserts. Good, or Bad?
It may not be for you to be honest... I am paranoid about my car, but you're a little more so! Put your car on a dyno with the bonnet open then have a look at how much your engine moves under full throttle when it's on the dyno. This is why I went for one on my mk5, with all the marketing hype and research I did about how it improves this and that- seeing how my engine moved made up my mind. On the road I found out for myself how the car put down power a lot better because the box moved less with less slop in the system especially on a modded car, but also I found vibrations in reverse even on a manual car. Same story with my manual mk6 but I did the same mod again because you spend more time going forward than in reverse and the benefits outweigh the cons, because I like to DRIVE my cars. Now with my roc being dsg the dynamic has changed a little... the benefits remain the same but the car has a slight vibration in D when stationary and the same bad vibration in reverse making it a little more uncomfortable in a dsg vs manual. At first just after fitment it vibrates badly, but it gets a lot better with time as it settles in and you get use to it. In your case go for one with the lowest durometer and give it some time to settle.

I have a hard 95A mount and nothing have ever broken from it.
But the vibration you feel!
If you want to test it park a car with one on next to one without one and open their doors youll see the diference.
It is something you get used to though!

That's tougher than an orangutan's nutsack!!! My bsh is around 70a I think....even at that level I have considered removing it, but again... the benefits outweigh the cons! Not many things under a R1000 makes this much of a difference on these cars!

MK6 GTI - Dog Bone Inserts. Good, or Bad?
Hi guys, if I may ask, is not better to rather change the entire lower mount, rather than using the insert? And in that case which is the tried and tested (aftermarket) mount to use?

Re: MK6 GTI - Dog Bone Inserts. Good, or Bad?
Get ECS mount ,its not that bad.
However when you first install it the vibrations are there but give it some time to settle in and most vibrations disappear.
I have had the ecs mount ,now I have the full revo pendulum kit.

What exactly does that pendulum kit do? I checked, it's like R2300 for the kit and it looks like it includes the dog bone insert as well?

Re: MK6 GTI - Dog Bone Inserts. Good, or Bad?
Not much difference tbh.
Just a bit better in terms of putting the power down and also a bit firmer.I have a manual so I enjoy it,with your DSG id just get the insert.

Re: MK6 GTI - Dog Bone Inserts. Good, or Bad?
Which insert to get? ECS? Revo?
I've only ever gone fully poly in my Cupra/GTI V/Polo..
Do the vibrations go away completely or is it still very noticeable?

Re: MK6 GTI - Dog Bone Inserts. Good, or Bad?
hey gents just a quickie
Would a broken Dog mount cause the a DSG car to have harsh acceleration on 1-2 gear only with low(20-30 %) throttle?
as a buddy of mine when the car is stationary and moves along there is a harsh cluck/movement but if he drives it on WOT on launch its fine No sounds or clucks.

Check it out, but check out the mechatronics whilst you're at itWolfburger wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 9:11 am hey gents just a quickie

How does he check the mechatronics? through VCDS?
