It's very worth getting if your car came with crap coils, as mine did. 3 different guys I know with the same coils mine came with had them fail between 30 and 50k, that's why I changed mine for these updated ones, and I just chose the red ones because racecar.

The R and Ed35 have good coilpacks... Black tops with stainless steel shaft. They are pretty robust. The G6 has black tops with rubber shaft. They seem to perish quick. So the R8 coil is a good upgrade here. Just more durable...

for the 1.8t guys with std turbo you wont make any more power - these coilpacks are just more reliable - if you running a BT you can see gains of up to 20whp with these coils if you run a larger gap on spark plug..

Perhaps 20 whp going from shot plugs and coils to a good working set. I will believe this if its done here back to back on a dyno , new set to new set

To get a possible gain , its not that easy , you need to play with the dwell time's and that could toast your coils right away if you get it wrong.

Yes , its more reliable but its not a coil pack specific to the R8 , it's also the same as a4/s4/a5/s5/a6/s6 q3/5/7 Touareg

Sorry for a revival guys, but can I use these on a 60-2 Dicktator on abf with hall type sensor?
Just wondering because the MK4 Golf Coil pack I have in mind is notorious for packing up, as seen in the MK4's
I won't mind spending the extra for a coil pack that won't give me sheeet later on

I Really don't understand what the hall type sensor has to do with anything as that is an input.
But yes you can let the dictator fire that coil.

The only difference I've noticed is the car runs alot smoother with the R8 coils and I've been told the big difference is when you running software, and start messing around with the plug gaps. Hopefully I will find that out soon.

R8 coils produce a stronger spark allowing you to run a larger spark plug gap under high boost, which supposedly results in a more complete and even flame front.

What most don't know is that the dwell maps need to be changed to accomodate the R8 coils properly. Stock coils need longer dwell times to produce a good strength spark, R8 coils don't and thus run shorter dwell times. By keeping the stock dwell map with R8s you end up overcharging them with no additional spark strength. Why you don't see more R8 coils popping is because they are more heat resistant than stock coils.

(My example is between 1.8T coils and TFSI coils)

Good day all. Could someone please help me. I got some red top R8 coils from GW and just had a look how they would fit in a 16V tappet cover but seem to be too big. Should I just press harder or are there some modifications to be done?
Thanks in advance

They don't fit in a stock 16v tappet cover. Adaptors to be welded into the cover is needed. Speak to Wikus at goldwagen delarey
