Hey there members.
I have a 1999 VW Golf Chico 1600 Carburetor that recently blew head gasket. I had the head skimmed, replaced head bolts, put on a Payen gasket set, replaced the oil sensor’s, replaced flanges and did the right torque setting. The car idles ok, seems 2 have a slight misfire but made sure the motor was at top dead centre and made sure the firing sequence was correct.
I have a funny gargling sound when accelerating in any gear and I almost through in 4lt oil, and the dip stick shows the level is right. I need assistance. We tried advancing the timing but all that changes in the idling speed but that gargling sound still there. It’s actually very annoying…. Can some1 please advice?

Where r u?
Does the sound get louder when you accelerate.
Did you check for the obvious like loose items or parts rubbing each other/

Re: Gargling sound from engine
The sound is only made when accelerating… other than that, when idling there isn’t any sound

Re: Gargling sound from engine
Hi perhaps mention where you are so that other Forum members can advise you.
You will need to take to a mechanic to check, not sure if noise is internal or not but does not sound right.

Re: Gargling sound from engine
I am situated in Wellington in the Western Cape. It sounds internal. Will be re-torquing the head soon so I think I will check the hydraulic lifters…JCTPUBLISHERS wrote:Hi perhaps mention where you are so that other Forum members can advise you.

Re: Gargling sound from engine
If the head bolts were torqued correctly the first time, there is no need to re-torque them. They are stretch bolts and one time use only. If you loosen the head bolts, take them all out and fit a new set.
