Post by Mr. X »

Hi guys, I am hoping someone could assist.
complete engine redone.
1st and 2nd gear runs through the revs fine, 3rd to 5th, Intermittent Power after 3500rpm. After 5000rpm, power fully restored.
Coil pack replaced.
De-catted
No Mac can figure out what is going on.
Timing is right, checked 3 times.
Idles fine and constant.
Only error on computer is knock sensor, replaced and error cleared.

Car should throw a code especially if it is limiting power. Did you get it checked with someone that has vagcom so the codes are more specific?

Compression test?

Do you have an auto/DSG box? Any other codes not relating to the engine? Sometimes it could be something else not relating at all to the engine that is limiting power.

Air filter changed?

Flat on low revs, but once after 5000, power restored fully. The only way I can explain it as if it has a turbo and only licks in at 500rpm 🤔

If air and compression is good, I can only think it is fuel related or ignition/electrical, does it feel like it misfires? Could also be fuel pump or injectors but anything like that should throw a code.

I would suggest drive it for a while and see, it might throw a code after a few driving cycles unless you are using it daily.

Okay, have you checked throttle position on your pedal and throttle position on your throttle body, maybe your throttle body flap needs to be recalibrated via VAG COM or one of them is reading wrong and giving the wrong signal.

Also another thing we noticed, that's the reason we De-catted, the exhaust manifold glows red if I drive it hard, even after the decat

If the manifold is glowing red, car most probably is running rich or something is seriously wrong like timing being slightly off. Whats the fuel consumption like?

Timing was checked 3 times, no problem on idle.
The crank gear was replaced as well
All the tools fit in the correct places when checked. Could it still be out?
