Engine rebuild or second hand engine

Post by VWCiti1.8sport93 »

Hi there
My 93 vw citi golf 1.8 sport had a bearing knock, it was a horrible sound and it was my first time experiencing such engine failure. The engine is not seized, but I couldnt get the car to start, it won't turn itself over. I opened up the sump and I found a big end bearing and a bent bolt that secures the big end. From looking underneath its visible that the block also has some damage. I'm expecting some others parts in the engine is also damaged. The options I have is to rebuild the engine or buy a second hand engine. If anyone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction, it would be very much appreciated.

Check goldwagen.

Iv seen them advertise brand new oem sub units and heads quite cheap too.

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on :driving:

:iagree:

I saw it in a Goldwagen brochure a month or two ago.

Perhaps get a quote from a reputable shop to rebuild, which you can then compare to the prices at GW. Remember to factor in things as getting the new engine registered on ENatis.

A proper rebuild is always the better option as a second hand engine is a risk.

Rebuild will cost more between the two in this case.

but....Your head could very well be fine still and maybe just need bottom repairs

I would strip first and then make a call
