2l 8v crankshaft replacement

Post by Kyle28rsa »

Hi guys

I have a mk3 gti. Motor is an 2l 8v AFW which is one of the later models with mp9 system. The Car is kicking out the timing after a few km's of driving. Upon inspection i found that the crank nose was completly damaged and could not get proper grip on the keyway of the pulley. I have decided not to take it out and repair but rather replace the crank itself.

I did abit of research and saw that the 2e crank would be a perfect fit as the afw crank is cast iron. After trying to source one , i see that it is very hard to find one. After a bit more research i see that i have more option besides the 2e, which is the ADY and AGG cranks.

My questions are this.
1. Is there a difference between the 3 in structure/strongness?
2. Are they different in measurements?
3. If i choose an option will the AFW pistons, conronds and dizzy be compatible with those cranks?

I do no want to make a hasty decision and thought i would rather request help on the matter. Thanks in advanceImageImage
