Hi Guys
Hope you are well. I have an issue with my 2005 1.4 Citi carb and need your help. For the last 2 months it seems to have picked up a ping(not sure if im using the word correctly, apologies). if i just enter a gear from 2 onwards and the car is on load(Going uphill or if i decide after a small roll to select 2/3 to carry on) the car seems to ping/fishbite , but as soon as the Revs climb over 3000 it goes away. I have changed plugs, leads, rotor and Dizzy cap but still the same. Carb was serviced about 6 months ago and fuel pump replaced aswell. Now im told to change the coil and dizzy but i dont want to interfere in places that may not be the problem.
Anyone else had this issue or can offer some advise? Thanks in advance

Re: Pinging on load at low Revs
Did this start after changing the cambelt perhaps? The timing could have gone off.
Try easing in on the throttle after going over speedbumps and the like.
To be honest I've seen so many of those 1.4's ping for free and they still alive.

Re: Pinging on load at low Revs
Thanks for the reply 8valve
Havent touched the cambelt or timing. Timing was done about 6months ago along with the Carb service. After coming out of the speedbump on say 2nd gear it does the whole ping/fishbite thing as well but as usual ALL goes away after 3000rpm or if i clutch it,bring the revs up and release again.
I been driving it like this for 2 months or so but its becoming pretty annoying, coz there are times where i just wanna floor it and then it starts

Re: Pinging on load at low Revs
What could help is if you maybe use 95 fuel? The higher octane should help, that is if you currently use 93 though.
I have a very high compression 16v golf, mine does ping for obvious reasons, but octane booster/ethanol/avgas resolves my issue. But I do have a race car as a daily though.

Re: Pinging on load at low Revs
In Durban we don't get anything less than 95 octane.
To be honest I say putting the car into 1st gear is a much easier option, after driving a high comp setup for a while my driving style is such to give the engine as much respect as possible.
Or maintain a good speed in 2nd gear if you going over bumps.
