Oil pressure warning for CITI Golf

Post by Knuckles87 »

Hi team,
Recently, my CITI golf Sport 1.4 at given times, very seldom, the oil pressure warning light appears for about 20 seconds and it goes away.
This happens after i drive for a short distance, switch off the engine and then start up and drive again. (This is when i need to get something at the shop, etc)

There are 3 things which could cause the issue.
1. Oil pressure switch may be faulty
2. Oil pressure switch may NOT be faulty and pump is going.
3. Oil might be too thick? I recently serviced the car, say about December and used 15W40 Shell.

Some boy at Goldwagen said, i should use a 10W40 because it's better and they get training on oils almost every month

Any ideas?

I'm sure correct oil for that car is 20w50.

Is a 20W not a heavier oil?

I'm no oil specialist but that is a multi grade oil.

Does this mean, to engine flush the car and then add the correct oil inside or just drive it as it is.

Personally I don't believe in engine flush, just drain that oil out and change the oil filter and put your new oil in and you should be fine,I'm assuming that this problem only started after you changed the oil.

I doubt it is the 15W 40 oil. My CTi ran with 15W 40 for many years without any issue. Hell, my 1977 Datsun is running it now without issues.

1977 Datsun 1200GX

Hi guys,
According to the service book, the oil preferably required for the Citi is a 502.00 which equates to a 5W30 or 5W40 grade oil.
Thus debunks the 20W40 sugesstion.

I dont think an engineflush is required, personally i think it's a waste of money. If you maintain your service intervals and replace your oil say, every 7 months/ 10,000kms, your engine should run fine.

I'll do the drain the engine oil next month to a 5W40 and hope for the best.

Hold the bus. a spec like 502.00 or 507.01 or whatever does not speak to the viscocity values. It is about the additive pack. So you can have a 5w 30 and also a 20 w 50 both complying to 502 for instance. Never assume a spec like that prescribes a viscocity

Hi guys,
I've changed the switch and the problem still persists.
When i drove from Kensington yesterday, at idle the tappets were a bit loud until the car picks up speed, which to me, suggest a faulty oil pump.

There goes R2000 of my beer money:(

Final update to this...
It appeared there was a knock on the sump which affected the oil pump and thereby causing low oil pressure. The pump was slightly bent.
That's the last time a women drives my car:/
