Oil leak - Citi Golf

Post by tango »

Hi guys,

Noticed a slight oil leak behind the alternator from the plastic cover.
I say slight leak but its enough to get a few drops on the floor.

Any ideas on solutions and causes?

Thanks in advance.

This sounds as though the camshaft and/or crankshaft seal is leaking. One would have to remove the timing belt cover to pin-point the leak.

Exposure to oil is bad for the timing belt. So, if your timing belt needs replacement soon, then you might consider doing it now, as those seals should be replaced sooner rather than later.

Either way, I would remove the cover and look for the leak. On the older engines (which I'm familiar with), the top half of the cover was quite easy to remove. That allows you to inspect the camshaft sprocket area. If it is dry, then chances are that the crankshaft seal is leaking.
