Re: Speedo and heat gauge
From your signature, I’m guessing it is a 1998 model with square dash.
Unplug speedo at cluster end and drive it. If cable turns, speedo gear and cable is good. If it dies not turn, go to gearbox and remove the speedo cable and check the soeedo gear in the gearbox on the end of the cable.

Re: Speedo and heat gauge
Agan need to guess whether you have a single wire sensor or sensor with two wires for heat gauge. Find the sensor on the motor and check if wire is connected. If if is a single wire, switch on ignition and short wire to engine block, if gauge and wiring is not broken, needke on heat gauge will go to maximum. Two pin sensor, seitch ignition on and short the two wires.caddy club wrote: ↑Wed Sep 05, 2018 3:02 pm Sorry for that, yes its for my caddy in my signature,

Re: Speedo and heat gauge
Its a single wire, what concern me is my heat gauge doesnt move sometimes or moves and drops down like ignition is switch off
It is very important for me to know my car is running normal temp, and not causing overheating, i have replaced the fan switch as well with a wahler one, the fan comes on but what i need to know is it coming on at the right temp
Many thanks

Re: Speedo and heat gauge
The fab switch and the temperature rating of it determines where the fan will switch on. This is usually at 85 degrees an thermostat rating is the same for opening.
The heat gauge is a separate circuit and for indication only.
If it sometimes work and sometimes not, it can either be a bad contact or wire on the gauge circuit or the temperature sensor itself being at fault. You need to check that out. The sensor is not that expensive and no special tools required to replace it when water temperature is cold and filling up water again after it is replaced.
