2.1 8v engine build

Post by mike65 »

Good day all...

I know there has been alot about this topic but not a very clear guide on it or i just cant find it at all.

The closest i got was a replay from Darrien saying this below.

parts you will need

- 2l block -2e or ady (if 2e,make sure that there hasnt been line bore done to the main caps or you will run into a issue with the crank weights touching oil squirters)
- 2l rods
- 83.5mm pistons or bigger for the actual 2.1 effect
- 038c tdi crank
- tdi crank original crank gear bolt
- and the obvious rings, bearings, oil pump etc...

things to be done (assuming you've bought whats needed)

- bore block to intended bore size
- if std crank was bought, the nose will need to be machined to fit the 8v crank gear
- crank gear hole (where the crank bolt goes through) will need to be drilled slightly larger to fit the crank bolt
- crank bolt will need to be shortened as it is to long
- top of pistons will need to be machined as they now will protrude the bore, how much is dependent on your application, whether it be a everyday 95 pump fuel car or a weekend ethanol car etc,get good engineers to do this, guys who build cars,as they can measure your comp ratio for you and not just chopping and estimating.

Ive foned for some pricing and came across an issue on the piston...the pistons comes in 52mm x 83.5mm and 63mm x 83.5mm

No one has the 52mm piston now my question is can the 63mm piston be choped and machined or what to do now?

Can someone more experienced help please? im 1st time builder in this

Heard on this very forum machining pistons is not advisable. Cant exactly recall why

Look up 8V Performance.

Deets in the advertiser's section.

Sarel has built many 2.x motors in just about all flavours.

I have read this....lol.

IMO knife edging crank is a waste of money. Rather get crank nitrided and cut again for bearing clearances.

Start by telling us the piston specs (make, size and dimensions of wrist pin, compression height, etc) you are going to get hold off.
