A Fox was the first car i bought. I still have it, but have not driven it in years. It is my sisters run around. I'd like to take it back someday when I can afford to buy my parents another car.

I'll need to get some pics from my sis of the Fox. Mine is a 1990 1.3 4 Speed in red. The car was in a really bad state when I bought it. Before handing it over to my parents to use I had a complete respray done. Due to cracked tail lights I had the rear modified to accomodate Citi tail lights. There is a set of Velo light reps in at the moment. The beading was all removed and holes filled. My boot lock also broke while I was using it and I couldnt find a replacement, so I had wired a solenoid to open the boot. So, when I had the car sprayed I had the key hole in the boot filled and smoothed out.

All the body work was done really well, and you would never say that the lights werent made to fit on the car.

Some other stuff done to the car:
- Shitty evo 15 inch wheels
- OEM rubber boot spoiler
- Plastic front lip (cant remember what its called, fitted like 5 years ago)
- Velo bumper grill
- Ugly ass Max racing small steering wheel
- Black vinyl seats with red stitching (cracked to hell because of no care over its life)
- OEM small badge grill
- Shitty home made door cards covered in black vinyl (my original ones were fckd beyond repair)

I love these cars. Its in a bit of a bad state at the moment but is still reliable and looks decent, and is getting my sister around until she finishes uni.

Since I started the thread it's only fair that I talk about my car.

It's my first fully on the road car. It needs some work. It's a white 1987 1.6 5 speed fox, in think It's the fox gls. I've had the the car for about 4 months , got quite a bit of power still for a 27 year old car. Still has all original interior in the blue. Will post some interior pics soon. It's the pre face lift fox so therefore it's reverse lights are in the back bumper(looks like it has 2 front bumpers on. Did some research and found that out.

It's on 15 inch velociti wheels which the previous owner nicked quite a bit so I need to have them refurbed. Only mod I've done is put a cti Cluster in with a rev counter as the original one wasn't working properly and didn't have a rev counter. Car needs a respray and has some hail damage. I need to replace the bumpers but battling to find the same bumpers. Beading is missing and it's proving to be a job to find. Soon I shall be getting drop springs and lowering b the car. Don't know what else to say. Hope more fox's can join get this thread.ImageImage

Was putting in the new cluster with rev counter a complicated job? Thinking of doing the same since my Fox doesn't have a rev counter or clock either, makes me miss the basics. But haven't put the new cluster in as I wasn't sure how complicated it would be since the current cluster doesn't have a rev counter. Would appreciate some advice on that mod.

Re: VW Fox Thread

Post by VAG Fan »

I think it depends on the clusters.

If you can find a cluster with a rev counter from a late Golf 1 (1983, 1984) or an early Citi (1985 to perhaps 1988, possibly even up to early 1990s), they will work plug&play. The signal lead for the rev counter is already in the wiring loom.

Essentially, as far as I know, if it's one of the original, black Mk1 clusters, it should work.
