1.8 carb engine specs

Post by 2226cc »

Hey folks

Anyone have specs for the 1.8 carb motors from mk1, mk2 golfs and jettas? Not familiar with them at all and looking online earlier today I only found info showing some rather pathetic outputs of 60 something kilowatt.

Have a lot of work to do on my mk1 but have to wait for tax season to be done. Enough work on the list to possibly warrant dropping the motor out the car so have been mulling over whether I'd just slip a 1.8 carb motor in there. Budget providing of course.

Do you want to know what the std kw output is or what you can achieve when you throw large chunks of money at it ?

Standard output. Have no intention of adding to it.

hi,

I have a 1.8 motor (HV) that I want to use with my old 1300, 4 speed gearbox.

When the block was mounted with the gearbox, and bell-housing bolts were tightened, the engine refused to turn, with the fly wheel jamming on the bell-housing.

any help would be much appreciated.

thanks.

That's kind of irrelevant to the topic on hand.

Anyway ... you use the clutch and flywheel from the 1300 or the one on the 1800? Use the smaller flywheel clutch from the 1300 4-speed combo.

Thanks. Wish I had the cash and time to get a 1.6i motor but there's too much that'd need doing to get such a thing in quickly.

Well I think time to budget and search. Looks like we'll be having this car for a looooong time to come.

Can you see where it's jamming?

I honestly can't think of why it'd be getting caught on the flywheel with all things being the same.

Take it out of gear! :-D j/k

The biggest issue you have is the whole carb story. I am certain if you were to put fi on a 1600 originally carb motor you will make the same power (74kw) as a velociti 1.6 etc

I don't doubt that for a split second. However, only considering the idea 'cos it'd be a straight drop and fit. I'm sure the bills for FI would grow fast and no can do right now with spending every arriving penny on the kid's needed care.

So, ja, stuck with a carb setup and currently an unknown budget.

Might, as usual, just not happen. Poor car is need for new driveshafts, clutch, mounts, bearings, hubs, shifter bushings, brakes, etc.

I would advise to fix what needs to be fixed to get the car safely running (especially if you have a young child) mods will come later.

I have many things that I want to do to my car but for now it gets me from A to B and i have just done what needs to be done to make it safe.

Oh no, definitely, that's the plan. But as I said it's a temptation to do the fit at the same time, hence the homework. :-)

Hell, I'm not even thinking of it as a mod. :-)
