Golf V 1.9 TDI - Clutch replacement cost?

Post by Jambalya »

I have a 2006 Golf 5 1.9 TDI.

I have been quoted at R9600 for replacing the clutch and skimming the dual mass flywheel.

Does this seem like a reasonable price, or am I being ripped off?

Haven't heard of anyone reconning it either. Usually replace clutch with pressure plate and DMF depending on mileage and if you have the clanking sound as well.

DMF should be replaced if it has over 150 000kms on it.

R9600 is reasonable provided that a good clutch kit like a LUK is used and the guys know exactly what they are doing.

They can put in a new DMF with the same labour(should be less as no skimming just bolt on new part) and atleast you have peace of mind knowing that you don't have to do the DMF if it fails especially just after doing the clutch.

R10k sounds reasonable to replace a DMF based clutch but do not have the current DMF skimmed, it must be replaced.
