1.9 TDI Tandem Pump Bolts stripped - Helicoil Install

Post by Callum229 »

Hi guys

I am sure I am not the only one. The mechanic that worked on my car, stripped the bolts off the tandem pump!

So it was leaking, i assumed that the gasket failed, but when I put a new gasket and went to torque it down, it just spun.

My car is a 2007 VW Jetta 5 with the BXE engine code and Bosch tandem pump.

Now since there isn't much info on the bolt sizes, I have taken it upon me to document it for helicoil install as to get the right helicoil, you need the Diameter of the bolt and THE PITCH SIZE that no one has documented.

For the two top big bolts it is an M8 bolt(8mm) with a thread pitch of 1.25 mm.

For the two bottom small bolts, it is an M6 bolt(6mm) with a thread pitch of 1mm.

The torque spec is 20nm for the big bolts and 10nm for the small bolts.

If you put the wrong pitch size, you are screwed(literally) as it will tear the new threads and helicoil inside the head. Then you would have to get a bigger size bolt to fit and widen the holes for the bolts on the pump to a bigger size!
