1.2 TDi Blue Motion Polo
Hello All,
One of my family members recently purchased a 2013 1.2 TDi Blue Motion Polo,
The issue with the car is that close to once a week the "glow plug" light will come on and then they have to drive the car at 100km/h for 10km in 3rd gear, this is what the local VW dealership told them,
This seems to work but why is it required and is there then not another way of "resetting" the Glow plug light when it comes on?
Thanks for your help.

Glow plug.
And that is most likely for the DPF regen cycle.

Diesel cars is a very bad choice for that. A scooter will be better.jaunrothner wrote: ↑Thu Feb 14, 2019 9:11 amSadly yes, the car does 7km a day, work and back.panic-mechanic wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:24 pm drive it harder , it will stay off for longer. Does it do only short trips day to day?.

Re: 1.2 TDi Blue Motion Polo
I'm not trying to be an ass or anything. But today's heavily emission controlled diesel is a very bad choice for seriously short commutes. They never warm up properly and thus the cat and DPF never gets a chance to be burnt clean - which they can only do in certain driving conditions which is basically NEVER going to happen in a 7 km commute.
A petrol engine something will work better and honestly a small fast warming or air cooled engine like a scooter is actually really the most suited for that. If I had a 7 km commute I would certainly look at a motorcycle of some sort for non rainy days.
Or get something older that did not have all the heavy emissions stuff in it.
IF it can be coded out sure - remove the dpf.

Re: 1.2 TDi Blue Motion Polo
Not over 7kms. The BM would be the last vehicle for this kind of commute. Seems silly decision.jaunrothner wrote: ↑Thu Feb 14, 2019 2:22 pm

Seems others run well with not much issues.
I think i read about another BM that has done in excess of 350 000km.
My colleague has one also that gave him endless issues but it seems they are all sorted now.

One of the elders at church bought a B Class Merc for the wife and it does short distances and he was complaining that the car is not running efficiently and it heavy on diesel.
I told that the car does not get to warm up enough and clean the DPF.

Re: 1.2 TDi Blue Motion Polo
Hello all got a 2012 1.2tdi blue motion
After having the car for about 4 months the glow plug and engine light came on. When I bought the car it didn’t have the correct battery, when I took it for a service I was told to get a start/ stop battery because the one I had too little voltage, replaced the battery. After a year my DPF light came on
Car went into limp mode and wasn’t driving removed the inside of the cats and removed the dpf error code
Car runs smoothly no issue just after car warms up the glow plug light goes on and most of the time check engine light comes on
The cars stop/ start function stopped working all together
Had injectors tested and calibrated no issues. Fuel pump was replaced
On diagnostics it’s picking up that there is low pressure on the rail. I had the car checked out at 3 different mechanics and an auto electrician they couldn’t find any fault mechanically and electrical wise . Took the car to barons waterfront and they told me it might be my injectors and quoted me R56k.
When the glow plug light goes on car has a rough idle/misfire . When car is warm it idles hard but if the glow plug light just went on the car has a slight misfire/ light shaking when idling.
Any help will be appreciated.
