Polo 1.9 TDI PD100 Oil in water

Post by aristo92 »

Hi guys,

So about 2 weeks ago it was time to do headgasket. I have noticed recently that there is oil in the coolant system again. I suspect that it might still be a build of from previously but would like to know what else I need to check for.

Thanks in advance guys

Maybe it as not the head gasket. When the heat exchanger fails that is what happens. Oil in the water. Change the heat exchanger and see if it stops.

Thanks panic, you are a legend as always. The head did lift so the headgasket was needed to be changed. Will have a look at the heat exchanger.

So slight update, it seems that my oil cooler is dying. Will have a look in the week when I have a chance to take it off. Luckily a buddy has a spare one so should be a quick fix.

It's quite simple and a wee bit messy to swap out the oil cooler

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on :driving:

you need a 27 socket - an extension and ratchet - a waterpump pliers or tool to undo the spring clamps for VW water pipes.
pull the two water pipes off - undo the 27 size nut form below - pull it off - swop the o-rings if you did not get new - push new one one - tighten the nut. put water pipes back on - put new coolant in bottle - done.

Happy to report that there is no more oil within the coolant system since changing out the oil cooler and flushing the system.
