CONVERTIN 1.9TDI TO 2.0TDI

Post by lwanza »

Good day VW family , hope you are all well, Im looking to replace my bxe 1.9 tdi in my jetta 5 for a 2.0 bkd engine,i live in Gauteng and want to know if its possible to do that because im planning on keeping this car for a long time looking at the current fuel prices, does anyone know a reputable mechanic who can take on this task and deliver. Also would like to know approximately how much it would cost to do such , I already did my research on used bkd engines and they go between 20k-30k. want this car to be my project car so looking into chip tuning the bkd engine once engine transplant is complete. The jetta I currently own has been properly looked after and has been with me since 2008 when I bought it.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Panic will tell you not to build what you can buy... and it is true!

Are there any issues with your car? Why do you want to replace the BXE?

If it has no issues and has been looked after then keep it for the daily grind and buy a second car to play with...

I would keep the 1.9 if its not giving hassles and possibly look at tuning that.
It is an ingenius solution to a problem that should have never existed in the 1st place...

lots of scope in tuning 1.9. But if consumption is something you are after just chip the 1.9 and leave it alone after that. They were always better on fuel than the 2l.

No boost can be many things and as simple as a vacuum leak. Sort that first then the black smoke will disappear.
Cannot comment on vibration without feeling it.

maybe nicely ask Panic if he can have a look at it for you.

Late post. Agreed on all here. Keep the 1.9 in, sort out the small issues.

No boost up to 2200RPM sounds like a vacuum issue or turbo issue, new PD130 turbo can be had for around R 8/9k, weekend job to replace.
I see you already replaced the turbo, then only other issue can be the vacuum line to the turbo, could also be a leaking exhaust manifold.
Also have your injectors flow tested, maybe they are blocked?

Vibrations sound like engine/gearbox mounts, complete set around R 4.5/5k from Goldwagen, will need an engine brace to replace.
The 1.9TDI's are very reliable, respond well to mods and software upgrade will sort out most fuel consumption issues.
There's a link in my signature to my 2009 Jetta TDI that had the same motor.
