Reflections Detailing : Blue - Not 56k Friendly
Hi All,
about 3 years ago a certain VW club chairman messaged me to detail his car. After a long conversation he agreed to come and see me where I detail cars. I honestly think he inspected my garage to ensure his car was in safe hands and i wasn't some random wanting a quick buck.. Fast forward 3 years a certain Rising Blue 6R has come back, Its a bit like a Unicorn/Yetti/Care bear type scenario. You hear about the car and you kinda know its around but you never bare witness to it... This weekend was a long weekend and beers and braai's would be the order of the day but Ian has been asking me to detail "Blue" for a few months now and it eventually happened. Blue has returned home after a sabbatical, and i was stuck in a hot garage making sure she got the attention she deserved.
I was a bit sceptical at first if it would actually happen.... Early Saturday morning Ian arrived at the gate to the complex... Needless to say the complex gate is bout 300m from my house and muffled by complex dwellers, but there she was... "Hell Beast" was at the gate - This car is seriously loud now . Ian parked on the driveway jumped out the car.. I think he lept out of the car to be honest... We chatted and off he went only to be seen 3 days later. I had a look at the car and there she was, the same car but different. Everything was different, the interior the engine the wheel arches the ride height the sound. Even Ian was different, he actually remembered my name this time.
I didn't know what to expect to be honest, and these days you never take the state of the car at face value. I gave it a good wash and cleaned it. Full decontamination took place using an Iron removal product and the age old tradition of clay and quick detailer.
only after that was the full extent of the damage visible. All four arches had been widened to accommodate the stance. Although the paint was a perfect match the finish was a dogs breakfast. The drivers side fender alone took me 1hr to complete which is rather long in detailing time. The panel shop work extended to the rear bumper where I would imagined a filthy wool mop and some seriously abrasive polish added a new finish to the mix. Apart from the horrible finish to the paint i was also met by a massive amount of RIDS and Swirls which was caused by 3 years of neglect in a number of shops. RIDS are a pain in the a$$ and they take up alot of time to fix as we need to take paint thickness into account. The rule of thumb here is "Less is more" and the less clear coat we remove the better it is.
I will let the pictures explain the process.
As for the correction process. Shed loads of time and an arsenal of pads machines and Scholl compounds
Machines:
Flex 3401VRG
Rupes Mini
Rupes Duetto
Pads:
Rupes
Scholl
Polish:
Scholl S3/S17
Gyeon Primer <---- this is the business as a finish product
LSP:
Gyeon Can Coat
Ive added a few before and during and the obvious after pictures
Decontamination stages:
Snow Foam:
The damage:
Correction shots:
B-Pillar correction
Decided to go with CanCoat as the LSP. This s really awesome product and for the price you could detail a number of cars on a single 200ml can.
These 2 images were the drop off and when i had finished.

The one thing that keeps me coming back to Lambchop, is well he's a grumpy old cnut like me. And we're both geezers... but the work he did all those years ago on my trusty mk4 cemented our friendship somehow and it just hasn't stopped.
Truly epic work, Knickerless TheWorst.

Re: Reflections Detailing : Blue - Not 56k Friendly
Those pictures certainly don't do the damage and the results any justice as I know they are hard to capture, but wow, what a massive difference . A stellar job as per your usual standards. That color comes alive with a good clean. I know many hours were spent fixing the paint damage but the results and these photos prove that.
Cheers

I forgot your name once, and you still have an issue with it... And yes, I came to see your place, to see if you were worthy of detailing my car
Well, happy to say, I am glad I did. Your work is absolutely phenomenal, and the nett result is epic! Can't wait to do a proper shoot in the new year now!
