firstly when buying your new engine make sure you get a letter of sale stating the engine number and person you bought it from as well as their ID number.
you will need:
1) ID Book
2) Original Licence forms for your car
3) R30
4) letter of sale of motor
go to your local traffic department, tell them you have changed your engine, you would like police clearance. they will print you an RPC form. you dont need to fill anything in on the form, take this to your local police clearance lot. there they will check your engine number and chassis number and fill out the form and stamp it for you.
take the form back to your traffic department, they will give you two forms, request for lost documents and request for change of information I think its called. fill both out, pay R30 and you're done.
remember to inform your insurance company of the change.
Ive just changed my engine, how do I relicense?

Some tips:
1) I got to Benoni at 6am, was 3rd in queue, got served at 9am.
2) Car wasn't in my name, forgot the letter stating i was allowed to get the vehicle cleared, the guys checked the numbers, did the paper work and said a could come back later with that form (or within 14 days).returned around 12, there wasn't even a queue for clearance anymore.
3) My advise, try poping in around 12 before you go at 6am
4) if you are really worried about your car getting impounded. get the guys to check the engine and chassis numbers, before you go to the office where you need to hand the forms in to get cleared, take your car home and come in another car. if the forms don't work out, they cannot impound a car that isn't there right?

Does anyone have the number for the Cape Town clearance office? I still have that Audi block sitting in the garage, and did not get any papers when I purchased the sub-assembly and I suspect (given the person who sold it to me) that I might be sitting with something illegal.
