With the new engine mounts fitted, it was not time to re-align the gear shift cables. Over time the gear shift cables can stretch slightly. All that is needed is to realign them using the following procedure:

Unlock the cables by turning each linkage and pulling them back, then locking it in open position to free the cables:

Remove the centre console:

Uncover the gear boot cover in the cabin and slot a 5mm pin or rod into the two loops to lock the gear into “centre position”:

Go to the lower front left hand side if the gear box to find the lever on the gear box. Pull down slightly on the main gear weight found next to the cables, while pushing inwards and turning the small lever gently into lock and placing the gearbox “centre position”:

Lock the cable into the new positions by turning the linkages and carefully make then click into place:

You can now unlock the gearbox and the gear lever. Get into the car and check if the gears slot into gear. Finally, add some fresh lithium based grease to all the moving gear lever parts in the engine bay and gear lever moving parts in the cabin.

You need to use the Lithium based grease on the linkages.

The sales guys can help (Midas, Builders, etc), but it will state 'Lithium based' on the tube.

by putting this based grease everywhere on the links and under the boot, does it help with smoother shifts? mine feels or sounds very clunky

Yes, it will help. The re-alignment will help a lot with that too.
