Karting @ Idube 2015 - Please vote

Post by Mitch »

The KZN Committee is planning another epic day out at Idube Karting Track. i am sure all those that attended in 2014 will agree that this was an awesome event, and the thrill of peddling the karts around the track beats any other karting experience that can be had at your local mall.

The provisional date is set for Sunday 24 May 2015.

As with anything, you get what you pay for. This does tend to be one of our more costly events for the year, so the committee would like your input with regard to the format (and subsequently cost) of the event.

Last year each person paid about R250. This put you in a kart for 5 minutes of practice and 15 minutes of race time. We haven't received pricing from Idube as yet, but it would be safe to assume that the same time would cost about R300 per person (we received a discount on the practice session last year which at this point we can't assume we will receive).

Lots of guys felt that they wanted to go longer next time. Obviously, double the time will cost double the money.

As with last year, once we have decided on the time and cost, we will collect money for the event in advance. If we do not have enough members 1 month before the event we will have to either cancel, or do it on a smaller scale, depending on the numbers.

At this point please vote on your first option.
Bear in mind the following:
There is a maximum of 10 karts available.
Each kart is shared by a team of 4.

We will leave this open till Sunday, and make a decision thereafter.

Please remember, that this is your club. The success and quality of events depends on your attendance and input.

question - is the 30min practice and 1 or 2 hours racing for a TEAM - in other words, for option 1, each driver (assuming a team of 4) gets 7.5min practice and 15 min seat time in the race?

Yes. The time is per team, per person time exactly as you mentioned. Similar to last year.

Would you last 2 hours one out in those karts? Forearms would will like you a teenager again.

I just find it odd that everyone moaned there was not enough seat time last time around, but the bulk of the vote is for exactly the same format.... 15 min seat time in a team of 4.

I sure as hell won't last 2 hours in a kart, but would certainly want more than 15 min seat time.....not necessarily in the same session though.... so maybe something like 2 to 3 x 15 minutes sessions

Yeah, how we spread out the driving time can be sorted out once we know how long. At this point we are trying to gauge how many guys are willing to drop the money on the event. Its all well and good that while the adrenalin is still pumping guys are amped for more time, but we need to see if guys are willing to spend the money for the time.

Which is why it costs so much more than the usual indoor turn left three times and across the line karting circuits, worth it though...

Im in!! Keen for more time too team of 4 2hr enduro, so 2x15min sessions... Last time just felt so quick in the seat and it left you wanting more!! Maybe this time though we can assign teams according to skill
Instead of weight. So in the warm up/practice sessions we can get timed and grouped accordingly to get the teams? Would mean extra work but could make the end results interesting?

I am also keen for extra seat time. You get what you pay for....

Just some thoughts.... you have to stop the karts periodically for fuel etc, and so any time gained or lost on the track in the race is negated in the 'pit stop'. It really messes around with a team racing over the whole race period in an enduro type event. And there is no electronic timing to track laps times etc.

So if you can only do 1 race at a time, is it not perhaps better to have a 'knock out' type competition to land up with the fastest okes in the final....

Hire 4 karts
Draw 4 names
They go race (shorter sessions.... maybe like 5 lap sprint races)
First 2 go through (or whatever works to ensure everyone gets the same seat time, so winners go on to another race, but losers also race losers)
Rinse and repeat....?

If you hire the karts for a couple of hours, Rose and Henry are pretty chilled about how we decide to 'structure'the racing.....

Just thinking out loud......
