CAR AMPLIFIERS : HELP SELECTING!!!

Post by BazzyB »

Hi Guys, I Really need your urgent help in the selection of an amplifier for my Corsa - already have a Calibra 600 Series and I want to add a new baby for both Amps to drive an 8" Digital Design, DVC, 1200w Subwoofer; Pair of Pioneer 700w, 5way 6x9's; Digital Design, 540w, 6.5 Splits, Calibra 300w 6.5 Splits & a pair of 200w Pioneer Tweeters. Though price is not the ultimate factor but I want to buy an Amp with real strong oomph to get the most out of all my speakers especially the Sub. Well, I have searched the net extensively and must choose between the following Amps based on perhaps my budget estimates as well as the maximum oomph that I can get - mos bang for my buck. Though the max RMS output could ease the decision but I am also particular on reputation, absolute performance and durability. So guys, my list is as follows and your urgent response especially in experience with these monsters are important:

• STARSOUND SSA-G-12400.4: Gladiator Series (12400w Max; 100w x 4 RMS; 4 Channel) R1350
• TARGA TA-N8600.4D: Nano Series (9000w MAX; 100w x 4 RMS; 4 Channel) R1550
• XTC (Creed 20000W Limited Edition) (20000w Max; 150w RMS x 4 CH @ 4OHM; 240w RMS x 4 @ 2OHM; 480w RMS x 2 CH@ 4OHM; 4 Channel) R1349
• TARGA TG-SK11000.4: Street King Series (11000w Max; A/B Class; 150w RMS; 4 Channel) R1150
• XTC: AP Black Card Series (12000w Max; 120w RMS x 4; 4 Channel) R1100
• TARGA (Pro Nano Series) TG-320.4D (Class D; 100w x 4 RMS; 4 Channel) R1199
• SOUNDSTREAM AR4.1800 (1800w MAX; 180w x 4 RMS @4ohm; 225w x 4 @2ohm; A/B Class Full Range; 4 Channel) R1999

:hi:

Perhaps, the abovementioned is in my preference order

What is the need for 2 pairs of splits,6x9s and a pair of tweeters?

A pair of splits and a pair of coaxials would be more than sufficient for your small system.

I personally wouldn't use any of those amps listed. You can't trust specs from most local brands. If you willing to go 2nd hand,i would look for something like a phoenix gold xenon 100.4 which you could find for around R1500.That is an amazing amp.If you looking for something new.Google SD 400.4.Those sell for around R2k..Your DD equipment deserves to be run off a good amp.

Hell I've seen RF and kicker amps in excellent condition being sold for around the R1500 mark.

Thanks for your response, appreciate. I am interested in the Phoenix but cant find a SA supplier, other suppliers even shows discontinued product. The Sound Digital really looks small in size but the specs are good

I am sure there must be more, but one local supplier I can think of is Soundmatch. The amps you have listed just won't do justice to the sub.

If it were me, I would fork out some cash for a decent mono block for the sub and 4 channel for the splits. Otherwise, a decent 5 channel amp. I would also remove the 6x9s and extra set of tweeters.

Where you from?If you from kzn,i might consider selling my xenon 100.4 to you.I bought it for my spark but have decided the car isn't worthy enough for that amp.
