Hello there. I have a vw 2L8v agg engine running on Dictator with the head flowed, std valves and 282 cam.head is skimmed 0.5mm.
Read on the forum that you have to skim over 1mm to use 288 cam.is this necessary? Can I leave my head at 0.5mm and use the 288 cam.my car is a daily driven car

Did you have to clear the head for the 288 to clear

Skimming the head bumps the compression up for better performance. The cam can run in a standard head without problems, nowhere does it say that skimming a head is mandatory in order to run a warm camshaft.

OP you need to read up on static vs dynamic compression and how they affect your engine.

That's only an issue with the 298's.
