VW Tiguan Allspace - Info on Towbar

Post by abdulrk »

Hi all

New member here - im from Durbs and own a VW Allspace Tiguan. Im looking to fit a towbar on my vehicle. To use for a bike rack and maybe pull a small trailer...

I refuse to pay 6500 for the VW original  - looking for advice and options to fit after market?

I'd say spend the money and fit the original.

If it really is only 6500 to fit the OEM folding one it's worth it.

Remember there is also anti-sway control built into the electronics when adding the OEM unit, and it folds out the way when not in use so no chance of you wacking yourself on the shin each time you busy in the rear, which in my mind is worth the money on its own.

Also be sure that whatever aftermarket unit you fit, is VW approved. VW will look for any reason not to pay any future potential warranty claim should there be issues.

R6500 is cheap!
Mine cost R12k at VW with fitment on the Touran a couple of years ago.
Plus, you get all the cool features as mentioned above

Bosal may well have a kit and maybe even something that links into the electronics correctly to get indicator, light and brake signals, but I'd also likely go the OEM route to get the correct control modules etc fitted. The OEM module also disables rear park sensors when it detects something plugged into the tow plug so as not to have the park sensors scream all the time.
