VWCSA Presents: The Midnight Run
Posted: Thu Aug 22, 2019 1:21 pm
Back in 2016, the VW Club of South Africa got the crazy idea to take a page out of the book of Japanese (and to some extent American) car culture, with a cruise in the middle of the night with no real purpose other than having a good drive with fellow car enthusiasts.
It. Was. Massive.
Last year, we did it again, but the rain put a slight damper on proceedings meaning that a lot of people didn’t actually do the run, but went straight to the end point.
Since then, we’ve attended quite a few other versions of the event hosted by all sorts of car enthusiast groups.
This has shown us that the novelty of the drive itself has been lost on some, and many have chosen to drive straight to the end point, or worse - race there.
For everyone’s safety, to get more rolling photos, and for a better sense of community, the end point will not be announced publicly. Instead, we will stick to the rules of the road and cruise together to our final destination in Centurion, where we won’t have a big party but rather a laidback gathering of awesome cars.
We suggest that you eat before, as food WON’T be available at the end point, although we will have some refreshments on sale alongside our merch.
Here are the details:
Date: Friday 30 August
Meet point: BP Beyers Naudé Oasis (Randburg)
Time: 11PM
Departure: Midnight (obviously)
End point: Somewhere in Centurion
See you there!
