VWCSA Presents "Run what you Brung" - 26 May

Post by Ian_F »

Afternoon all

Our next event takes us to RedStar Raceway in Delmas. The racetrack has been a favourite of petrolheads all over JHB due to the excellent facilities and very technical and twisty racetrack.
Fortunately for us, we won't have all that to bother about, and all you'll have to do is drive in a straight line...

Image

Yes, the Club hosts you at our Drag Day with a small difference.

As we are not spending small fortune on timing and lights, we are hosting a Heads Up Drag Day, Run What you Brung (Based off the popular Discovery Show, Street Outlaws).
During the morning session we'll be opening the strip for practise and call outs. During the afternoon session we'll ask each driver to draw numbers pitting them against each other in eliminations.

The last driver standing will be called the winner, and take home the prestigious prize as VWCSA's fastest drag racer ( and of course some cool prizes)

While this may seem unfair to the lower powered cars, we may institute handicaps for some of the faster cars to keep things fair. At this point it's still up for discussion, so throw in your 2c and let us know your thoughts.

Date: Saturday 26 May (Date change due to venue availability in May as per events calendar)
Time: 8:00am - Racing starts PROMPTLY at 9:00am
Venue: Redstar Raceway

Ya this could work? We could even use the classes normally used at dyno days and then do a draw that way?
And then could even go as far as to have the winners of each class race each other til we get the fastest. :driving:

So, we've discussed a few of the options, and below is a little more information on the day:

1. Classes added!
N/A - FWD / RWD /AWD
Turbo - FWD / RWD / AWD

To keep the idea of Run what you Brung, and to ensure some fairness, eliminations will be run in the above classes. IF you are the only entrant in your class (cough: N/A AWD) you might get thrown in to mix with the other racers. More on this as it unfolds over the next month.

2. Street Legal Tires ONLY.
If you can't drive on the road legally with them, don't bring them along. Again, we might allow DOT Approved Semi-Slicks...

3. CHASE IS A RACE (In my best New Orleans Accent)
meaning that if one racer jumps and the other racer follows, it is a legitimate race.

4. Crossing the centre line
Disqualification

Call out welcome for morning session racing...
