Gerotek High Speed Oval

Post by neighbourhood terror »

Hey guys the OOC is having a high speed oval event on the 30th April ... They've said if we want to come we're more than welcome, and remember your membership card has a RCL which is valid for this event ..
Gerotek High Speed Oval

Come all you speed freaks and see it you can break the record held by an Opel on this track! MSA Rules apply, competitors to be dressed in long sleeves, long pants and shoes.

Where possible bring your own helmuts. Racing starts at 08:00 sharp, be there and learn your and your motor vehicles capabilities. Cars must be Roadworthy to participate and will be scrutineered. MSA Officials will be in attendance to ensure compliance. Food, snacks and cold drinks will be available on site. See you at the only place where you can legally “put the pedal to the metal!” Some big names will be invited, such as Speed ‘n Sound, Nascar, Emotion, Allan Oberholser, to mention but a few. See you there!

R20-00 entry fee to spectators, R100-00 for members and R120-00 for non members.

Agreed, R120 is way too much. R50, and I would have entered.

mmm - maybe the vw club should also do an event there and charge R50 - I sure would attend ......

But the problem is reality - the track is gonna cost you over 10000 for the day .... and lets say you have 150 entrants ..... @ R50 well that would then make you a bit of a loss for the day.

So 120 is not realy expensive at all - just take what you spend on a monthly basis on your car to make it quick .... and then you are to stingy to spend 120 to go and enjoy it ..... does not realy make sense to me ;-)

But different strokes for different folks I guess

Get what your saying but remember you don't just make money off the entrants but of spectators as well , and sponsors. If you get a 1000 (Relativly little for sutch a "big" event) spectators at R20 each you already have R20 000 in you back pocket. Not sure on the cost of Gerotec for a day but tarlton is +-R18 000 for the day So normally what happens is that the entry money is almost pure profit for the club (I say almost because we have to pay MSA per entrant )

I honestly belive that at R120 it's a bit steep.

We didn't even have 1000 spectators for the Tarlton Drags, so what makes you think that we are going to get 1000 spectators for Gerotek? I think people don't realize how much it costs to hire any track...

Well, how can anybody really effectively plan an event this year... all the tracks have bumper to bumper events, and we take the gaps we can. Anyway... Gerotek is always a sell out, even with other events on the same day.

Convey leaving Eastgate Shell garage at 6:30am

If you want to go direct... go towards pretoria N1, keep on the N14 towards PTA (N1/N14 split), get into town... beware speed trap camera there. Keep going and turn left into Church Street... keep going straight... for a long long road... you will later on see a board "Gerotek" on the left... turn right there.

I read somewhere that a lot of cars on our roads are suffering because of soot build-up on the hot air mass sensors caused by smoking trucks using dirty diesel!
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)

Yup, its a problem for most of the new cars... :(

No wonder those items are the most likely cause of engine problems and pathetic performance.
