Breakfast Run to Angela's Picnic - 02 April 2006

Post by Life-GP »

Angela's Picnic
Here is a short history on the origin of Angela's Picnic:

Angela was involved in Morgan's for a large part of her life and owned a pink Morgan. She was diagnosed with cancer and decided that she would like to combine her love for cars with an event where money could be raised for Cancer research. Angela Heinz was a remarkable lady who arranged this totally laid-back, uncompetitive picnic in the park to give SAMCA members, and the public, the opportunity to see a variety of very special cars in one place. Angela died of cancer some years ago. To this day, the Morgan Club arranges this annual event that has become known as Angela's picnic and your entrance fee into the Delta Park grounds is a donation to the Cancer Association. SAMCA endorses this event and it is well attended by the majority of its Marque clubs. The collection of cars to be seen on Sunday represents a large, ever-diminishing slice of South Africa's motoring heritage and is well worth a visit.

Bring with: Pack your picnic baskets (Food stalls will be available), chairs, blankets, umbrellas etc.
Venue: Delta Park, Victory park
Contact details: David Haydon 083 755 4617
Time: 9-00am
Entrance: Donation
Type of Event: Social

So who's coming for a day out with the club, (bring your family along as well) .... Just a few notes for the day:

There will be food on sale but as far as I know it's only going to be one, Nandoes, so if you don't like chicken or don't want to stand in a hell of a queue then you're more than welcome to bring along a picnic basket or a braai (please bring your own braai as there are none on the grounds)

Same goes for drinks, you can bring your own or if you like queues, you can buy.

Also bring a hat and sun block, I will try get us a spot under tree's but I cannot say for sure.

This is a car show so there's going to be allot of other clubs on display, (Ferrari, Porsche, mini, Opel, cobra ... ect, ect), so there will be plenty to see. I'd also like to have a good strong showing from you guys it'll help make the club look good.

The Opel club is making some rather brave statements, about some or other record,
"Over the past few years the Opel Club have challenged all clubs to beat our club donation of R1000-00, this has never been beaten", and I'd like to see that "record" move on the VW club. But that would be a bonus main thing is that you guys join us, and make any donation, however much you want, towards CANSA.

Some directions ...
The best is to get onto the N1 / M1 and find your way to Empire rd.
When you get into empire rd make sure you are heading away from town (towards Auckland park / SABC)
Keep left and take the M71 Emmarentia (two lanes on your left)
This will take you though a set of bends in the road with the Milpark hospital on your right
Then you'll go through another tight set of bends and end-up in Barry Herzog drv
Just keep going straight up Barry Herzog; quite a way up the road becomes Rustenburg rd, at a biggish intersection (with a shell garage and a mosk on your left)
Move right, and you'll go around a left hand bend in the road then up a hill.
Near the top of the hill you'll see a Engine garage on your right. Turn right here into Road No3
Keep going straight down road number three, until you get to the entrance gates on Delta Park.
Go through the gates.
When you get to the T-junction turn right. And the immediate next road left. The entrance to the park is on your left.

Please no wheel spinning on the grass !!

If anyone gets lost phone me on my cell and I'll try help you out.

Thanks to all the guys that came through .. sorry I wasn't able to spend some time and promote the club a bit better.
I haven’t heard how much was raised on the day, but as soon as I know I'll post it here.
Also got a call from CANSA saying a very big thank you to the VW club for manning the gates and helping.
A special thanks to Joggie, Julie, Scott, and Chris for helping at the gates on Sunday, your help was greatly appreciated.
