3rd gear will always show more power than 4th gear but not like 10 hp maybe maximum 5 hp.all cars with different gear ratios should be close enough because you calibrate the gear on 3000rpm on the dyno.

Is the calibration of the dyno simply to put everyone on the same playing field and negate ratios?

Yes more or less. Don't think someone can say the other guy made 15 hp more because he has got a better gear ration "if i fit that ratio i will beat him"

Most 4th gear ratios is close to 1:1 ratio.

I know on some turbo car they get more power in 5th gear because it loads more and the turbo gets time to spool

On my Car its best to dyno in 4th. 3rd ends at 120 so hardly any room to see what KW it makes. Where as with 4th they take it to 160km/h

160km was not the limit I reach in 4th. Its just where they take it to on the dyno.

Yes thats why they ask you what rpm because the dyno stops reading at a 100or 200rpm lower than the specified rpm.

I told them to stop at 6500rpm. I don't see the point in revving the nuts off the engine to get a few more phonies. I never go into the red part.Barney1212 wrote:told them to stop a 6k with mineTander wrote:Barney1212 wrote:lol my 4th does over 200kph

Is 6k near the limiter on your motor dude ?

I agree if peak power is at 6000 no need to rev it past 6500.

Re: VWCSA Night Dyno @ HM Auto - 26 July
Yup, had it cleaned a while back. Trust me she runs better than the number lead to believeTitleists wrote:Have you done a valve clean?playback wrote:Was well run guys. Well done.
Where did u guys get your Dyno print outs from ?
I think I'll have to go back some time. Do some consecutive runs.
I know now what she does on Sasol 95 with water only injection.
Next some OB1 no water injection and then both to see what gains if any.
It's amazing how you can be so happy with how your car goes until you see the number on a page and start thinking.
Time to breach 300 or again. But bad though. 8 years old. 153k on the clock and 100k K04 modded.
Good times.
I ran her in 4th to try allow the Turbo to spool more which is something I nearly never do on the street. I have a feeling she got bogged or flooded with water injection as it took so long to get going in 4th and possibly the water flooded her.
That's why I want my print out so I can see what the run looked like. Paid for it so why didn't I receive it like the others.....Feeling grumpy now
I'll go back to that Dyno and get some runs done. Maybe all in one morning. Sasol 95 no w/I, then 95+w/I , then ob1 to 20L no w/I do a 20min drive then everything to get a good gauge of what she does... All in third this time.
As she is now she still does 225km/h on the 1km so still basically the same as she's been for a few years so don't believe power has been lost.
