VWCSA - Charity Drive

Post by Simi »

As our nation struggles to get to grips with the third wave of COVID-19 infections, our next event is one that will look to benefit those in need while keeping each of our attendees as safe as possible. The best way to do that is to donate our old clothing items that could better serve others before delivering them to this month's charity of choice in a socially distanced breakfast run.

Catherine Robson Children's Home in Vereeniging is in need of our support. With 62 children between the ages of 5 and 18 to care for, we're looking for donations to keep everyone warm and well cared for.
Please visit: http://www.crchildren.co.za/who_we_are.htm to read more about this project.

Over the course of the month of July, VW The Glen, VW Hatfield Pretoria & VW Melrose will be accepting donations of clothing. This is a great opportunity for you to pass on your old hoodies and sweaters and any other clothing items that you may no longer need. This will also help you to make space for our new VWCSA hoodies - check them out :

Here is a Wishlist from the Home as well:
Toiletries (DESPERATELY)
Shoes/Slippers
Underwear
Non-perishable food ie Tinned food

Then on the 1st of August, we'll meet at VW The Glen at 08h30 before convoying at 9h30 to Catherine Robson Children's Home. Assuming that restrictions have lifted and we can socialize a little more freely, we'll then head to the nearby Gas Monkey at Emerald Casino for a late breakfast / early lunch.

As always, face masks are compulsory and social distancing must be adhered to.
Let's open our hearts and our wardrobes and make this month one of giving to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Stay safe, and we'll see you on the 1st!
Yours in VW,
The Volkswagen Club of South Africa Committee

The Volkswagen Club would like to thank everyone that joined us on our run to Catherine Robson Childrens’ Home on Sunday, 1st August 2021. Much needed food, toiletries, and clothing were donated, as prior to our arrival they did not have food for the day.

The caregivers showed much appreciation and gratitude towards all the donations. Unfortunately, we could not spend time with the kids as two children and a caregiver tested positive for COVID. We hope that they will make a full and speedy recovery.

We would also like to give a massive thanks to VW The Glen. They opened their doors to the Club for us to view their vehicles, receive coffee and biscuits, and even handed out VW keyrings to all attendees, but went even further prior to our arrival.
VW The Glen had put out a box to collect donations from customers, but on day one of collection, most of the collection box was filled up by their own employees! After all this, they even had a vehicle available for delivery, and hotdogs were provided for the 62 Children, as well as the 7 staff members at Catherine Robson Childrens’ Home.

Unfortunately, the boxes at our other 2 pick up points were completely empty, but thank you again to VW The Glen who made up for that tenfold!

It was an emotional day leaving our attendees driving home with tears in their eyes and feeling grateful for the things we take for granted, so let’s make a giving spirit a part of regular life wherever possible. Once again, thank you to everyone for their donations and assistance towards making a difference in these desperate times.

Our love and appreciation,

The VWCSA Committee
