Engine Mounts and Vibration
Do you get stronger (softer or harder ) engine mounts for the MK1 ? Just want to see if I can reduce the amount of Engine rock from the motor. At idle the motor rocks quite a bit... not sure if its good or bad but would like to see if I could reduce it some how.

Re: Engine Mounts and Vibration
You get polyurethane bushes that will reduce engine movement, but expect vibrations.

Re: Engine Mounts and Vibration
Hi shaun
thanks for the quick response, do those poly bushes go into the standard engine mounts ? yeah the vibrations are starting to make themselves known now, something behind the dash is vibrating but only at low rpms or idle rpm.
But the engine movement in the bay is quite a bit rougher than with the standard 1.4i motor. Just want to prevent long term damage if I can.

Re: Engine Mounts and Vibration
volkspares sells a complete poly bush kit for the MK1, from engine mounts to suspension bushes etc.
They are alot harder and will reduce engine movement, but cause of this lack of movement, the idling vibration gets sent through the cars body, and the dash rattles will drive you crazy.
I would just replace the front engine mount with a poly mounting, or even better, upgrade the front mount to a polo mounting.
Looks something like this

Re: Engine Mounts and Vibration
Some thing like this Shaun...
The unique design and material of Superpro has been used to develop an engine steady bush for your MK1 Golf that will substantially reduce the excessive engine flexing found in up-rated cars without passing noise & vibration to the driver. The kit comes with Superpro's standard 60,000 mile/ 3 Year warranty
A polyurethane front motor mount is available for the Mk1 Rabbit, Scirroco and Jetta and is suited for street or competition use. It prevents the engine from rocking back-and-forth during acceleration, thus aiding in getting the power to the ground. Highly recommended for cars with exhaust modifications.
The passenger side mount is a factory mount from the Turbo Diesel. This mount features a harder rubber construction than the original mount found in gas engine models and helps to alleviate engine rocking.
looks like Im off to Volkspares this weekend. Thanks for the help Shaun
