Hydraulic Lifters................

Post by zane.mk1 »

A year ago i bought a 1.6 carb motor for my citi.

When I first started her up she sounded lovely but after a week i heard the lifters make a noise.

I decided to replace the lifters with new Ajusa lifters.

But every now and then i still hear the hard lifters sound?
Especially when its hot.

I've done 15 000km with the motor and i'm using Castrol GTX motor oil.

I have no other problems regarding the motor. The noise is just irritating me.

Any help / advice would be appreciated.

I've never heard of that brand of lifters before. You can swap to a set of INA lifters and that should solve your problem.

INA lifter you can buy from Goldwagen.
Use Shell Helix HX5 (yellow can), rather than GTX.

tx, will be sure to try the INA lifters out. by the way, i paid R570 for the set AJUSA Lifters.

i havent really exeperienced problems using Castrol.
but would like to know why i should avoid using castrol.

My car is due for a service this month, so i was planning on getting Castrol Magnetec which our VW Agents use when servicing vehicles.

My own experiences with castrol GTX are sludge buildup and dirty engines inside. Had no issues with shell.

Spoke to a salesman @ masterparts. Apparently the Ajusa lifters and the INA are of the same quality.
Its the Castrol that is making k@k cause of the sludge build up.

So i'm first gonna flush the engine, fill her up with shell helix and see how she sounds.

I'll then take it form there.

tx for all the info guys.

If you had time, you could remove the lifters and clean them as well. Just to make sure there is no sludge in.
It will be noisy at first when you put it back, but it should quite down soon.

They NOT the same quality, take everyone here's advise and just chance them.
zane.mk1 wrote:Its the Castrol that is making k@k cause of the sludge build up.
The sludge normally builds up in the sump.

Just chance the lifters to INA! :bang:

tx for all the info guys.

I am sure a few guys here have commented before on flushing the engine and don't suggest it, just let the oil drain properly and then fill with Shell.

I also have ajusa lifters in my motor, very very noisy..... using delo 400 15W40 oil. Would eventually buy INA lifters, but untill then mine will have to do. A good friend once said a noisy lifter is a happy lifter! LOL
