Jetta 4 passenger side airbag, can it be switched off?

Post by jacqvt »

We have a baby now, and for now my wife and baby travel in the rear seat when we go somewhere. But in time to come, when our angel is older, she will sit next to daddy. On some never cars you can switch the passenger airbag off. Can it be done in a Jetta 4?

If not, what will happen if I disconnect the battery, unplug the airbag (if I can reach it) and leave it disconnected. Same for the airbag in the seat, can it be done, or will I get airbag error readings afterwards?

Sorry that I cannot help with your question but.....

In most other countries it is illegal to have a child in the front seat. It is just not safe. I have found it best to put my 3-year-old's booster chair behind the driver's seat. It limits the temptation to distraction.

The air-bag can be turned off at the dealer where you have to fill in forms and sign them.
They also have to fit a ressistor kit and code the airbag control unit.
