Neat engine bay

Post by marzbars »

Ok this might be a stupid question but ho on earth do people tidy up their engines?
I tried this weekend with a pack of cable ties and a few rolls of insulation tape and after two hours of taping and clamping and tying it didn't look any better

The only way to really neaten up an engine bay properly involves a lot of work (especially in the 8v's) the best way is to extend and re-route all the wires out of sight like inside the inner wings and chassis legs, some modders even plate the chassis legs to the inner wing and route everything under there using corrugated trunking.

I blame all those stupid pipes. An mp9 engine bay looks like spaghetti. Having air con and power steering don't help with neatness either.

I used that sleeving to hide most of the wires but it didnt make much difference. Bay still looks clutterd.

But there is a solution. If you drop in an air cooled beetle motor all the pipes can go. No radiator pipes, no electrical wires, it won't be powerfull enough to run ac or ps so those can go, only problem would be that the motor would face backwards. But i think its a small price to pay for a neat bay.

It's easy; just stip off all the stuff that's ugly and tow it around on a trailer! LOL!

Keeping the bonnet closed, helps a lot.... also people might think if your bonnet is always open, the car is always broken - like an opel !!!

Cluttered MP9 bay? Bah

Then you must see a CTi or any VW running K-jetronic.
I have tampered with the idea of getting the head worked when it was still my car and not the wife's. I totally got lost between all the piping and wiring and didn't want to take the chance to remove and make a fu#@up when putting it all together again.

The polo engine cover helps alot to make the 8v motor look neater.

Ha Ha. But at least the kjet had some order with the fuel pipes. I liked the way they were set out.

Thanks Vrooom! Ya, it is difficult to have a tidy 8v. I'm thinking of wrapping my speedo cable and clutch cable in one big black corrugated wrap where they go around the head. I also want to get a battery cover.
