If you have enough money, anything's possible, but the question you should be asking is WHY? The Audi 4.2 V8 is a very heavy engine (compared to the 4 cyl it replaces) and will need substantial modifications to the suspension of a Mk 1. The car will also be crap around corners.

Ya, I would do that if I had the cash! Mid-engine will be really nice  can you shoehorn the motor in there yourself cos you are gonna need alot of fabricating done etc do you want it to be rear-wheel drive?

You'll need three things; money, time and skill, with money being the most important, because it can buy any of the other two if they are short in supply. Good luck if you decide to do it!

I know it's a bug, but here's some inspiration:

IIRC, there was a thread on VW Vortex a long time ago on this, but built into a Mk2 shell.
Tried searching for it, but no luck.

Dude had the motor, 'box, suspension, the works built into the shell, motor in front, rear wheel drive.
