Why oh why, fuel consumption,mp9 vs aftermarket

Post by rsarlie »

why does after market management eat soo much juice!trying on a full tank say 47l,only highway, only urban,it doesnt matter, drive slow,fast,400kms on a tank is always a miracle, yet mp9s running similar setup get decent fuel consumption according to driving style,Iv seen people drop there management for mp9 for fuel reasons, and mp9 seems to be at least 200-300kms better per tank on all cases, what is so different about the mp9?,I mean on the dikatator with all mp9 goodies, temp sender, tps, maf evrything a mp9 has is up and running on the diktator, why does mp9 give better fuel consumpyion?does it individualy controle injectors?or is it the tuner?why?

I also get around 300KM's - 330KM's to a tank.

I am switching from full after market to MP9 as soon as I have the $$$ together.

I am also sick of the cold start issue every single f#cking morning on aftermarket management.

Gah! No thanks.

Hi there,

I've got a Mk II 2.0L 16V with dicktator. I can drive down to Durbs on a tank if I drive at 160kph and under. In city driving I get between 11.5 and 12.5L/100Kms. This is bearing in mind that the valve stem seals are gone.

I think it depends on your driving style and map settings.

on factory ecu - the management is very carefully tuned so that the engine receives a stoichiometrically correct fuel/air mixture - no doubt car manufacturers spend millions and countless hours of testing to achieve these results..

with aftermarket management the tuner sets the air/fuel ratio mixture so i reckon its down to the knowledge and skill of the tuner

from what i heard on forum - craigs(Life ??) Abf is light on fuel - running on a perfect power management..

so it maybe possible to get good fuel cons - depending on who tunes the car

True to a degree.

I've been limping around town lately trying to see if I can get some extra KM's out the tank.

No difference at all.

I am hopefully going to have the car dyno'd on Wednesday night.

Maybe that'll help with the overfueling.

I am switching to MP9 so that I can avoid the "winter map" syndrome I had to deal with this past winter.

Car was fine in the summer (400 - 430KM's a tank), the moment it got cold everything went for a ball of sh!t and it's pretty much stayed that way.

Plus there's the whole, 10 - 15 minutes cranking session every morning which is aggrevating me like you have no idea!

Atleast MP9 can run the factory idle motor.

I also have dicktator on my 2l 8v, and also get around 320km on a tank (44 l). I have been told to take my car for a redyno at someone else who knows dicktator (eg. Chris Dicks designer of dicktator) . some people tune different. that's the only way to know for sure that it's tuned right.

Well for starters guys like Bosch spend months tuning systems to get them to be good all round. Tuners have an hour or two to try get similar results. Also tune for Power more than economy cause if they tune a car and get average figures guys lose credibility. Cause when the guys leave the rollers first thing your hear about are the power figures not economy numbers

My MK2 (Mr Turbo) ran pretty well and got decent consumption by comparison. 11km/l was not uncommon. 12+ was good going with some decent driving. Some spirited driving would change that figure considerably though...

I have a 1.4 16v (yes I know) polo with FF and cone and the factory mp9. Full tank is 55L. I tend to do a lot of hard driving and I get 580km per tank!!!

Before the supercharger, I was getting around 430-450 km on a tank with mixed driving in the Jetta. 1800, flowed head, 276 cam and Gotech.

I have found out how to eliminate the problem as I have the same problem. A cold start injector/valve needs to be installed and hooked up to the management system. Going to give this a try.

Hey man,

I would've gone this route if the Digifant idle stabilization valve didn't cost R5000 :(

And that's just one component of the system that you need.

For the same money I am switching to the latest Management including fitment and dyno-tuning
