golf mk1 rabbit head swap (hydraulic to solid lifters)

Post by vvannel »

I have a 1984 1.3 Golf Mk1 that needs a new head. I found a 1.6 solid lifter head, but the problem is that my engine block has an extra oil drain in the front, the second smaller drain hole. The solid lifter head does not have this hole to line up.

Can i plug this hole out, and how do i do this?

Post pics so we can see.

Normally in the front of the block, oil filter side, it's oil feed to the head. That one you don't want to mess with.

What engine number is your motor?

Another thing to remember is the larger valved heads have a bigger combustion chamber and valve diameter than the 1.3l. The result is that the valves touch the sides of the cylinder block and can bend.
