Annoying knocking on my lowered ride

Post by zain_c »

so i took out my H&R lowering kit last night and i fitted a new Koni Sport lowering kit in my Citi...ok i'm didnt fit it, TinTin did. Thanks a mil Etienne. so now the car is crazy low. The 16" BBS's are nicely tucked and the height is sweet. I've also got Ian Glass shocks in and the ride quality is good and handling is great. Only problem is...when i hit slight bump in the road I'll get a loud knock from the front ride hand side. So after further investigation...i found that the driveshaft (at least i think its that) that was knocking on some metal. I've attached a pic of where the problem area is. i know Tin has the same suspension setup as mine and he has never had this problem.

On the below pic you can actually see where the contact is being made...

Even Fli's citi is farking low and i doubt he experienced this problem. Can someone please advise me how to get around this problem??? The sound is driving me crazy. :bang: But i'm loving the height and handling.

Thanks

You have 2 choices:

Raise the ride height.
Do some cutting and welding on the chassis leg.

I think the only way around it is to modify the body in that area, either cut it or knock it open.
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)

in all honesty that is stupid low and the only way you will fix that is to raise the car.

:bang:
I had the same problem with my old set up and my drive shafts got the scaars..I flared the chassis area wher it touched.
Also my wheels rubbed when I did full turn and I knocked the area wher it touched there and all was well.
But now with the Eibach its lil higher and I got no issues.
Btw I have Velociti wheels on the car.
Hope you come right Zain.
Jus take it easy coz you don't want that thing to snap while you driving.

Nodge(take a piece of pipe and cut in the half, must be a little bit bigger size than your sideshaft, then get the chassy leg cut at exhaust place so the pipe piece fits in there and weld it )the chassy leg were it rubs

 yes, it is low...the kit was in for like 5mins and then my mk2 16v lip was splattered all across Tin's driveway. But it looks sweet.

ok so last night i got gatvol of the noise and i introduced my car to the grinder. i slowly filed bits of metal away till i gave up. Put my rim back on and ALAS the knocking was gone. There's now enough room for the shaft to move around in...so now i've got a damn low citi with no knocking and no wheel scrape. a little more still has to be taken off coz when they are really huge dips or bumps in the road there's still a very slight knock but nothing near as bad to what it was.

Thanks for replies guys its much appreciated.
