1.4i overheating problem

Post by ryno1.4i »

Hi Guys

I drive a 1.4i citi golf. After a service and adjusting the timing slightly my car started to overheat. I thought this might be because I adjusted the timing so I put it back where it was but the problem still persisted. It keeps on pushing water trough the overflow cap when warm....
So I went through the usual list of things to check for:
No oil in water
No water in oil
Added antifreeze with high glycol
Fan works and comes on by itself
Water bottle cap seals perfectly
Thermostat works as well..

I am totally out of ideas. Is there a better way to test if the head gasket is blown, could it only leak if the car revs or pulls??! Can it be the water pump?

HELP NEEDED!!

How are you setting the timing, you need a vagcom to do it properly on a MP9 car. Why did you mess with it in the 1st place

You say this happened after the service.
what exactly did you do in the service?
what prompted you to adjust the timing?

It was a normal 15000km service. Oil, plugs, air filter, oil filter, petrol filter....

The car was pinging so I slowed the timing down a smidgent ..Nothing wrong with that.. Ive been doing it for years

You mention quite a few things but did you make sure that the water pump is working properly ?

First things frst. Get a new cap or check that the seal was not misplaced on the current one. You say the water is pushing out which is often just a seal issue. You Did remove the cap and put back on during the service and my money is on that.

I have a similar problem, my fan doesnt come on while the engine is super hot. The temp on the cluster is @ zero  What can be the problem?
The temperature of both radiator pipes are hot.
Shorted the wires going to the switch on the radiator and the fan goes on.
