G5 GTi's Latest Dyno Results
I fitted my K&N Typhoon CAI couple days ago and I just dyno'd my GTi at Dynotech today on pump fuel.
Prev with just s/w and DP:
193 kW with 413 Nm
Current:
205.9 kW @ 5554 rpm
422 Nm @ 3396 rpm
Graph to follow as soon as I scan.
Thanks to Amien from EvoPerformance. You make me proud, bud!

The nice thick coastal air makes it possible not to starin that K03 too much! Up here we won't get that sort of power I think?

Thanks everyone.
Yes I'm still K03.
My reading is at the flywheel not wheel. Most dynos in CT gives flywheel reading.

Re: G5 GTi's Latest Dyno Results
sorry buddy, but the minute its corrected to flywheel power, its guesstimated, say what you like, its nothing more than a guesstimate...find a proper dyno that reads wheel power, then you can see what its really making...cape guys seem to love flywheel power cause its an inflated power reading, so they seem to have more power than everyone else...STO_GTi5 wrote:@RoadHaWg - I did mention 20min before your reply that it was flywheel power, bud. Re: G5 GTi's Latest Dyno Results
ok guys stop the shooting match
I was just excited with my power. You guys make sense about the wheel power compared to flywheel power. The more you think about it, the more you think that the FkW reading is an estimate. So please help me understand this dyno thing better.
What I don't understand is how can a machine that has a wheel spinning on it,
1) measure for both Kw and NM. How does it know the difference to plot the diff positions on the graph?
2) why does some Dyno gives FkW and some WkW results?
3) Can the FkW dyno be calibrated to show WkW?
These may seem naive questions, but I want to understand it better.
Thanks

Flywheel, as tested on an engine dyno and usually with no ancilliaries attached like alternator, power steering pump, aircon pump, etc.evolution wrote:i just have a question

Re: G5 GTi's Latest Dyno Results
Torque and power are related to one another by rpm as torque is a measure of the rotating force while power is a measure of the work done by this rotating force in a certain timeframe...STO_GTi5 wrote:1) measure for both Kw and NM. How does it know the difference to plot the diff positions on the graph?
Depends on what the operator uses, but I have personally always preferred ATW readings, whether in hp or kw...STO_GTi5 wrote:2) why does some Dyno gives FkW and some WkW results?
Yes, any dyno shoudl be capable of showing both, but ATW is regarded as a lot more accurate than ATF as there is no calculation or measurement of how much drivetrain loss there is...STO_GTi5 wrote:3) Can the FkW dyno be calibrated to show WkW?

1)cool man, well basically it can plot Kw and Torque since Power (kw), which the work done is a certain time frame, is a function of Torque (Nm), which is a measure the rotational force, and Rpm...so at a certain rpm the engine produces a certain amount of torque and this directly relates to the power produced as well
a basic formula is P=(2*pi*N*T)/60
where P is power in W, N is rpm, and T is Torque in Nm
see how they relate to one another?if one changes ie rpm, so will torque and power, however that is a very basic power formula...
2)A dyno that you strap you car down onto will always give wkw readings, however the operator using the software can opt to then convert to flywheel power by thumsucking an estimate of drivetrain losses (usually guys will use 15%0 however since every engine and gearbox etc is different, its not accurate to use a guesstimated drivetrain losses and so flywheel power will always be, at best, approximately right, but its never accurate, ever.
3)Yes it can, but again since you don't know the percentage that the operator used in his conversion, it won't be an accurate conversion
im sure the other will have something to add

The GTI shouldn't have a lot of drivetrain losses like a AWD or RWD car. Probably close to 180kw ATW
