vw golf 1 1982 Carb,overfuel,misfire,doesnt idle

Post by naomevw »

Hi guys,my name is Naome I drive a golf 1 "82 Carb, lately my car is struggeling to start after a few attempts it slowely starts to idle but when I accelerate it dies, only rev's up if I accelerate a little bit but also doesn't want to idle,I must keep giving fuel and the fumes comes threw strong.Everytime I stop I must rev the car so that it doesn't stall,my car is also heavy on fuel lately, didn't have that problem before and started with one go in the past, took the carb off to clean and check for leaks but still struggeling with the same problem. Also strange when I want to turn left or right while driving it begins to stall as if its not getting enough fuel or power threw and again I must rev the car.what can the cause be,any advise will help please.Thanx

Try replacing the rubber carb base and start there. If your problems persist get the car to a carb specialist and let them do their thing.

Don't ask your swaar to look at it, it will get worse.

As missioner mentioned, check the carb base. Even if it is fairly new, it may have developed a leak or crack again.

Heavy fumes could be coming from the leaking base or check if the second stage is not stuck resulting in flooding.

Is choke functional and open?

Will check,do u think by putting another carb on aswell just to see if the problem continues will be advisable? I haven't used the choke since I bought the car 4years back,my bf builded the carb from scratch that time and its the first time I'm having this problem, the spring on the back of the carb came of but replaced that with a new 1 aswell

More than likely an air leak somewhere. is the bolt that connects from the airbox to the top of the carb tight, those threads often give issues and then the top of the airbox pops off slightly
